Any reputable machine shop doing performance head work n Harleys will have the tooling to machine ACRs in any twin cam head. You will also need the OEM wiring harness. I would not even bother wiring it into the ECM or your aftermarket tuner. Wire it straight to the starter. This way when the starter button is pushed the ACRs are open. Super simple to wire and you will avoid any kind of starter kick back issues which can cause serious damage damage to your starter ring gear especially in a high compression set up.

I went to the Harley dealer today to get my 2013 Anniversary trike out of storage for the summer. When I left, I got about five miles from the dealer and heard the most awful sound coming from the engine. The service engine soon light came on and the trike died and would not start again. It was the loudest knocking noise I had ever heard.

I called the Harley dealer for a tow back to their shop so they could investigate the problem. I thought for sure the engine, with only 10K miles, was shot.

After investigation, they found that the Automatic Compression Release (might be called Electric) had shorted out which caused the entire problem. Getting around towards the end of the day, the manager put 3 mechanics on the job of replacing it within an hour. I don't know what's involved in replacing it but they told me it was a job that normally requires 3 hours labor.

Since I bought my trike from the same dealer and have all my service done there, they ate the cost of the part and replacement of it, A total of $430. I was so relieved to find out it was something fairly simple compared to an engine. The manager told me he had never seen that happen before.

Anyone else ever run across this?

TIA
Jimmy

I know you had commented on my other thread but how do you hook up to the starter? Can I use the harness that I have pn 70623-08 since it has the ACR plugs on the ends? Tired of messing around with the fuse block and ECM plug. A diagram would be great if possible
