Default winter for riders

Am I the only one who hates riding in winter type weather?

It's 59 over on the Fort Worth side today. Warming up to 71! I'll be out on my scoot as soon as I'm off work today.

But, with that being said....

I'm a puss when it gets below 40. I'll go out for a good cause or good time. But I sure don't set off to go riding in that weather for fun. I don't own the appropriate gear, and really have no intention to.

when I lived in Toronto, 50şF ( 10şC) was kinda my cutoff point- anything over 50 mph ( 80 kph) would just be too cold and my hands would be claws on the controls.
I'd be the guy who would walk in and order a drink...and 2 coffees, one to hold in each hand to warm them up

We always tried to do a New Years Day ride...the day and night before getting the bike out of storage and ready would keep the Fellas from getting too hurt.
A late-morning run to the local wings and beer place would be a fun diversion...and home before dark as the wet pavement would start glazing over

I live in AZ.

Mike

HA!! You don't even know what real winter weather is
I only dream of your winter weather and to able to ride year round.
I may be a little more "seasoned" than mkguitar ...I'll ride down to 5*C (40*F)...not for too long, but no problem to go for a 1 or 2 hour ride.
C'mon Spring!!

OK, here we go.
I've riden in such cold weather, my gasoline kept freezing. My headlight beams froze in mid air. The weather guy shivered when he said how cold it was. I've riden in temps that were at least 20 degrees less than you ever did, and I didn't even have gloves on. I've riden further, faster and at higher elevations in temperatures that were colder than anybody else has who has or will post in this thread.

Winter is my thing. From the teens up and clear roads I am on the go. Keeps and improves riding skills. Winter riding requires more focus on surface conditions especially in curves, longer following distances, longer stopping distances and much more awareness with cars following, ahead and at intersections.

14/15 winter I did over 12K. 15/16 winter I did over 14K. Winter riding season is November 1 to March 31. This winter will be much lower for me as my wife had a stroke Nov. 6 and just recently with physical therapy she is able to get around with a cane. Now that I don't need to care for her as much I am up to 4K since Nov 1 to today. Should be able to reach 7 to 8K by the end of March which although low for me is still a considerable amount of snow belt riding.

I also ride a 14 XL1200T and a 17 RGS for winter duty but no pictures of them in the snow.

Gunny: Thank You for your service. Here is some real stats for you. Started riding in Mar. 1956, closing in on 500K, over 70 bikes lifetime and 27 (H-D's) with 21 still in the garage. And I'm only 76 so the numbers will keep adding up.

I don't ever put my bikes up just because it's winter. I used to live in the Metroplex so that was year round riding. Now there are times of course when I cannot ride, but every month the bikes does leave the garage for a spin. Lowest temps would be in the upper 20's.

Rode around Tampa Fl. last month with daytime highs in the eighties nearly everyday. Rode over the skyway bridge what a blast. Then come home to this cold, no you're not the only one that hates riding in winter.

Very sorry to hear about your wife. I wish her well. It's a long, slow recovery following a stroke.
