Anyone running with these RJS Original saddle heat shields? Has anyone compared the Kuryakyn to these? I'm wondering if there's that much of a difference between the 2 considering the difference in price.

"ya, i really struggled too because of the cost. i was going to get the Kuryakyn/HD saddle shields. but after reading some posts about some folks having problems with the installation, and a couple of post about them melting or cracking, i decided they weren't such a great investment. i was able to finally find some at a dealer and looked at them. really was not to impressed. didn't care for the look, having plastic/lexon hanging off the bottom of the seat.

after frying one more time in traffic, i decided to look around again. looks at the rjsoriginals and another one that was kinda similar but didn't fit the curves of the seat.

went with the rjsoriginals. they look great on the bike, and blend in well with the seat. they have a aluminum backing with the outer leather type material. if you didn't know better, you would think they were part of the seat.

as to whether they work or not, absolutely. they are great! no more heat on the inner thighs, and i couldn't be more happy. the wife was also complaining about heat on her legs when riding two up. she also is happy now.

know they are expensive, but i think compared to the other stuff out there, they are the best. certainly overpriced, but $80 or so for the Kury/HD plastic ain't such a good deal either.

bottom line, get 'em and you'll be happy after the sticker shock.

I'm curious is these interfere with leg clearance when stopped with your feet on the ground? I just installed a set of hoggchopps lowers on my Street Glide and the heat from the right side is crazy now. I was considering these but was afraid that they might get in the way when I come to a stop. I've got short legs and already have problems getting my feet flat so I don't want to add to that problem any. Can anyone using these perhaps give me some feedback regarding leg clearance? Thanks.

I don't have any problem with clearance with my RJ's Orginals. And they only took minutes to install.

As for being more expensive, ok, they are.

Now adays you get what you pay for, you buy the best and will never be disappointed is what Ilive by.

Those who really can not afford them should seriously budgetor save up to get them. They will pay for themselfs.

 

I just ordered a set for my 07 Ultra. It's a relatively small investment when you consider the comfort factor. It stings at first but consider how much cheaper it is to get the best.. first. I can't tell you the number of times that I blew money on a cheaper product only to turn around a few weeks later to get the better/more expensive product.

If money was our most important deciding factor we would all be riding Yamahas instead of Harleys! [:'(]

All I can say is "Damn the RJ's are GREAT"

Cuts off most of the heat to the legs - Moves more air to the rear Jug - Look & Fit GREAT!!! Just a GREAT PRODUCT & well worth the extra $$$

How do they mount?

I bought the Kuryakins (didn't install them since they look like a PIA to mount). On my 07 Road Glide I've got some wireways that run from the back of the tank under the seat and have to remove them to install the Kury's.The RJ website doesn't talk or show how they are mounted (at least I didn't see it).

 

one end tucks under the wiring harness conduit (under the seat) and the bottom end snugs under the side cover. they also attach about mid-way to the frame with velcro. Again, you get what you pay for, and you can't get much better than these.

 

If you go to the bottom of the website, where they have different pictures of different bikes, there's an installation instruction button. He has instructions and diagrams.

After reading all the replies here I think this is the way I'm gonna go, tired of having my leg fried to the side.

Can anyone tell me how long the delivery took?
