Corner Stone Extended Service Plan
As he was writing up the deal, the closer offered the plan to me for $1200! Magically, that same plan was $900 cheaper when they realized that a smaller spiff on the ESP was better than none at all!
It rubbed me wrong. So I opted out again. That really irked the dude! But such is the price of pissing off a customer. I got an excellent deal on the bike, however.
My local dealer though was not happy about me mentioning a different warranty provider. When I called to get the inspection, I said I would potentially be using a different warranty provider and they were like "let me check to see if we do inspections for that." I thought that was odd and a little dumb to turn away work but they called back and said they'd do it for $36. They also mentioned if you get the HD warranty, they will waive the fee.
When I went back to pick up the bike, I spoke with the sales person and asked if they could match the cornerstone pricing, give them a chance to earn my business and they said no since it was not an HD warranty from another dealer. This would have been acceptable, but they followed up with saying not every dealer has to honor the cornerstone warranty and to check the policy to be sure of what they cover. I explained to them it's the same as theirs but they were less than interested in anything I had to say about the warranty. That kind of rubbed me a little bit but I'd be butt hurt too if I couldn't make a sale.
Anywho hopefully boardtracker/cornerstone will approve my inspection so I can purchase the warranty tomorrow and be covered before my ride this weekend. Should be about 500 miles this weekend so having the warranty is a nice piece of mind. And after the inspection and oil change I had done, they washed the bike as well. She looks purty now. Below is a pic taken when I picked her up. Credit google photos for adding some filter to the bike to make it look awesome.
Currently Cornerstone offers 2 year at $998 if out of factory warranty and model year 2006-2013. You can get a 6 year tire warranty for $375. So if you do 4 years (pending price does not go up) with 6 year tire comes out to $2371 at cornerstone.
5 years coverage with tire through HD comes out to $2679. I went into HD today and got their pricing.
It also looks like Cornerstone changed their policies in the past few months as Now there is a $50 deductible but they now cover, towing, rental reimbursement and lodging reimbursement. I priced them out a few months ago and there was no $50 deductible.
I agree with you that if I go HD for 5 years, I would hopefully surpass the 25,000 mile mark and then I'd go to cornerstone where HD charges more once you get to 25,000 miles.
I have been debating on which policy to get. for 2 months now.
As stated, Cornerstone only offered a 2 year plan. With the HD offers, each year added, the cost for each subsequent year goes down, as mentioned the last year added to mine was only $200 more.
Incidentally, 3 different dealers all had the same price, on a laminated sheet. No flex by the finance managers. The MoCo appears to have put a stop on crossing state lines for better deals, or at least working on it.
After 75K, I may be looking at Cornerstone, but that's further down the road, and circumstances may change.
YMMV

I guess some dealers are willing to negotiate BUT everyone in this area is a no go $2300 + for the 5 year extended on the street glide I bought last December and didn't include tire/wheel..
paid $1300 with tire and wheel coverage from Jim Palmer
Several reasons for this. A 5 year plan on a new bike is actually only 3 years, the MoCo covers the first 2. Also, the price on new bikes are usually "Fluffed" to offset some "Gimmees" such as plan offerings, service, merchandise, or dealer anxiety to sell that bike for a host of reasons.
I've heard this before in other threads. Since it's not an HD backed plan, I'm no lawyer but I assume a dealership has a right to not deal with an external party if they choose to do so. Of course that would probably be a blessing for local indies.
I'm sure most dealers would work with it and have no issues. On the other hand, sure would suck to be broke down in BFE and have a dealer tell you they're not gonna play.

With Cornerstone you can go to any licensed repair shop, something you can't do with Harley.
Furthermore if in the very unlikely case someone didn't want to accept Cornerstone you have the option of paying for the repair and Cornerstone will send a check to you for the repair cost.
