Depends on the model. On mine, the backrest pivots forward and you can get to the screw through the mounting hole.

There is probably more, if you take a look.
I did look, but never found a definate answer, y i posted here, I figured it said remove seat ect. but wanted to make sure

I have an old Corbin backrest that I will sell for $40.00 plus shipping to you. Just PM me if you are interested and would like to see photos.

I purchased it for my Road King. My problem is my arms are too short to use the backrest. I can't lean back at all and still hang on to the grips.

I just do not put the 1/4" bolt that locks the backrest in place. Use it when riding and when I stop I put it in my tourpak or saddlebag.

FWIW, i got the kury backrest and i really enjoy it. it's a pita to adjust because the adjustment is under the seat, but once it's there, it's there. looks clean to me. you can pull it out and throw it in a saddlebag for overnight storage. YMMV
