First congrats on the new RKS great choice. What color are you getting? As far as a riders back rest and shield they are must have items if you are 50 and over in years. Maybe even 40 and over.lol If you are worried about scuffing the bags which is bound to happen regardless, especially if you haul a pax you have options. There are lid protectors you can install or on the cheap if you are tall you can mount the bike on the right side. I'm 6'3" and mount from the right side sliding my leg on the seat. If height is an issue you can stand on the right foot board and lift up and over. This is how the motormen are trained to do it here in the US. It keeps them away from traffic during a stop which is safer. I enjoy mounting my bikes on the right side and listening to the much older guys in my club say that's not the right way to do it. Makes me laugh.
Most rider backrests fold forward to allow for leg swing and any passenger you haul can stand on the pax peg or board if you install pax foot (floor) boards and lift up and over. I still can't get my wife to do this unfortunately and she's been riding with me for over 20 years. 🙃 I have lid protectors on my 2020 RKS.
Im slightly over 40 and my backrest stays on, I dont give a dime if I dont look cool 😁
ditto on the right side mounting. Local motor cop that taught me low speed maneuvering told me that another reason to mount/dismount from the right side is to keep your right hand near weapon in case something goes wrong

Exactly right Oscar and they use the bike as a shield ducking behind it.
Hi all, first post here. I just bought a 2021 RKS and the speedometer won't light up. I have to stop at dealer so they can take a video and send it to Harley so I can get a replacement assembly. Anyone else run into this problem? I'm beyond mad with my dealer, waited four hours for them to "go over bike" last weekend when I bought it, take the first ride Sunday and the speedometer is already broken SMH

You are the first one I've heard of having this issue. I'm sure HD will get it taken care of but I know it stinks. Look on the bright side, (no pun intended) if you only ride during the day your good.

I'm sure I don't have all the details with your situation, but at one point I thought my speedometer was broken too. Turns out it only lights up at night and it comes on automatically. Are you trying to check it during the day?
