I have a cracked tourpack on my 2010 Electra Glide. It is cracked right in the middle of one of the lower hinges. Any suggestions on repairing this? Would it be cheaper to repair or to replace?
I'm not sure how extensive your crack is.
If it's not too bad, it can be done from the inside without a problem, basically as simple as running a soldering iron in a figure 8 down the crack. Adding some filler with a compatible plastic would be helpful.
If you know how to use it, Kitty Hair is a very good repair/adhesive material. Obviously good for fiberglass, would probably work well with other materials as well. I've used it with success on Harley saddlebags. Or just use standard fiberglass cloth and resin. Agree with drilling a hole at the end of the crack no matter what the method of repair is. And do it now.
Drill a small hole at end of the crack.this should stop any further cracking.
How bad is the crack???
Then repair it your self.
Plastic weld or epoxy (prep it right before you start).
If it was fiber glass you can repair them with resign and glass (or carbon fiber cloth).
My old bike's tour pack was a loaded (all the lights and a sub hole).
When I got done it was...... (not the best picture, but you get the point).
Drill the ends of the cracks, glue, kitty hair, all that is nice - but I would find a way to give it extra support too. A long, thin metal strap or similar for reinforcement in that area should be considered, if you plan to go the repair route rather than replace. I would be thinking along the line of what caused it to crack? How can I prevent it from happening again?

The crack happened right at the lower hinge by the seat. Yes,it is very week now and causes the lid latches to not work properly. I have purchased a piece of aluminum which I was going to use for added strength. I will import pics as I fix the tourpack. I am also going to try the weld process. Will the dealer have the paint codes so I can have the tourpack repainted?
