Default touring stabilizers

ok, I saw a video for some ebay stabilizer mount but it peaked my interest. I have an 07 UC and I've experienced the wobble in turns and higher speeds. Also I've been fighting a vibration that seems to emanate from the front end. New bearings and shock springs going in this weekend. Change fork oil last week to a heavier oil and that did improve things.

Anyway my question is has anyone tried the Progressive Stabilzer?
http://www.progressivesuspension.com...4/touring-link

I'm just wondering how did it affect the ride? Did it correct the wobble? Vibration increase or decrease.

Also noticed vibration seems to happen more below 2500rpm's. This led me to believe the motor mounts may be crap. Bike has 20k miles on it. I'm not expecting it to be totally vibration free. It is after all a Harley. I have not owned a bike this large before so I'm still trying to figure out whats normal behavior.

No. No one has ever tried the progressive touring link. (sigh)

When you bought the bike, did you experience the wobble? First try to determine if there is something that needs to be fixed - engine mounts, tire pressure, spoke adjustment/tightening, swing arm bushings, etc etc. I'm hesitant to install a product that can mask an underlying, fixable problem.

Once you are confident that there is nothing you can fix, then I'd explore stabilizer products, and there are plenty. Progressive, True-Track, Alloy Art, many others.

Most knowledgeable people choose True-Track

My 2 cents. I went with Glide Pro and can say I have sport bike like handling now.

Thanks guys. I've only owned the bike about 2 months. So like I said I'm trying to get things figured out what's normal behavior. The vibration and wobble has been there since I bought it. I'm thinking previous owner did not worry about these things and from what I understand he only rode it to work and back. I bought the UC because road trips on the vrod weren't very forgiving.

I had one on my previous Glide and it worked fine but the Heim joints wore out prematurely. It has been suggested that the geometry of the part contributed to that but on the plus side, it didn't affect road clearance.

I have the Progressive link and it works just fine......don't let the "knowledgeable" forum police tell you differently.

There are many cheap copies of the True-Track, which is the original of that style. However before buying one make sure that every other aspect of your bike is in top shape, such as: front and rear rubber mounts, swingarm bearings, tyre treads and pressures, fork fall-away, etc. Don't fix something that may have it's origins in worn out parts!

For a little light reading check out my bagger wobble thread, but get a long drink first!

12 years with a True Track and mine ride like it's on rails, rock solid stable. My shovelhead wagged like a dog's tail.

MikeTD3's comment made me realize that I hadn't done a good job of answering the OP's question! After I put it on, I did notice some improvement in how it cornered, but honestly, these are heavy touring bikes and unless you do a whole lot more work than just the TourLink, they're gonna handle like...well...hogs...in the corners!

Was it worth the $150 I paid for it? Yeah, I reckon, there are other ways to spend that amount of money that will make a lot more impact in my life, but, hey, until you try it, you'll never know it! The advantage of the TourLink is that it doesn't reduce ground clearance, but, like I said, there's another thread nearby this one where a poster opines that the geometry isn't ideal to get the job done. For those of us riding reduced height bikes, like a Street Glide, this is an important issue, and is why I went with the TourLink. If you're riding a standard height bike, like an Electraglide, you might be better off going with one of the ones that go under the frame, like a TruTrack.

Am I gonna pop for either one on my new (to me) 2011 FLHX? Not for quite a while, and not until I notice that I have a problem. One of the things that have been touted about this new frame is that it eliminates the tendency to wallow in the curves, so I'll pay attention to see whether that's true or not. It really wasn't that big a deal in the first place on the old one, so that will factor in, as well. If I decide I have a problem, I will likely buy the Progressive TourLink because of the clearance issue, and I will either replace the Heim joints with a better quality part from the gate, or I may simply wait until the originals wear out, but I'm going in figuring that at some point...soon...I'll be replacing them. And for a $150 part, spending another $25 or so to get adequate upgrades, isn't my idea of value.

So, to boil all those words down, and to get back to the original question of 'do ya think that the Progressive TourLink has value'? The answer is: 'meh'.

The front motor mount may need to be replaced. Even with the low miles, you've got 10 years on the bike, and that front motor mount is in exactly the right place to get dirty and oily, which will degrade the rubber. I have a urethane front mount on my bike, which improves handling, but at the expense of added vibrations, which some guys don't like. I dialed in the handling on my bike through a complete re-do: rear shocks, front monotube, billet triple trees, urethane front motor mount, new swingarm bushings, upgraded tires, and a touring link. I was going to relocate my upper motor stabilizer from between the cylinders to the front downtube, but have never gotten around to fabricating a mounting boss for the front downtube.

Taming wobble is a matter of keeping your motor/trans/swingarm from moving side-to-side.

The Progressive stabilizer is a good product, and there are others that also work. Do a quick forum search, you'll find most all of the products are reported to work pretty well. Just updating your tires, fresh swingarm bushings and front motor mount may fix the majority of your issues.
