I changed my front drive sprocket to a 30T and went to a 205/55 rear car tire. General consensus was that my speedo would be wrong. Not according to the PV. Well.....it is off by a MPH or so (it's fast) but I'm fine with that. Put a new FM 2/1/2 header and CVO slip on's on and wanted to see what my AFR was while riding. Installed a canned tune from FM for this setup. Wanted to check the fuel mileage too.

All of this was done with the PV from the comfort of the riders seat. Can't do that with a PC5. I've had both and the PV has to be the most versatile self tuner on the market.

I had a PC5 with e-series slip-ons and a hi-flow air filter. Bike ran good and I had no performance problems. Decided to replace the header pipe with a fuel moto de-catted version and to replace the PC5 with a power vision and target tune (sold my PC5). Don't know if it was PV, head pipe or target tune or them all taken together, but there is a noticeable positive difference in performance and fuel economy. Starts easier and seems to idle a little smoother.

Definate upgrade for me.

There is one BIG difference between the PC5 and the PV. PV "flashes" the ECU with a new map, PC5 runs ontop of your stock ECU and modifies the output to the injectors. Both have their merits. One thing I like about the PV is, once flashed, the unit does not have to be on your bike (unless you want to data log and see the gauges and ****). You don't have to have all that extra wiring and plug ins to your harness. The PC5 has all of the wiring and multiple add ons to the loom. Not that, that is a bad thing, just extra crap on the bike and extra places for "possible" water intrusion and connection issues. It is rare, but can happen.

I have a PV5 on my Vic with a custom map and it works great. I used the PV on my Road King with a map from Fuel Moto and couldn't be happier. Fueling is spot on, mileage is excellent. I got 45mpg yesterday on a 200 mile ride with all sorts of throttle variations. Fuel moto's maps are very close and I am sure if I went to a dyno, I could "probably" find a few HP and Tq but not really needed.

The maps Fuel Moto has "might" be for your specific can/air filter set up, but they do not have every combination out there. My map said "Stage 1 hi flow airfilter and slip on exhaust" in the notes section. I am running the S&S Stealth A/C and MK45 cans and couldn't be happier with the tune I got from FM. Nice thing about FM, you get lifetime support and map upgrades if you buy it from them. You add cams, they'll send you a new map. Dyno will always get you to the 99% answer, but a company like FM, with their experience, is a great option that will get you to the 95% solution without the extra dollars for the dyno time.

If your bike is running good, I'd leave it as is with the PC5, the amount of "betterness" you might get is negligible versus the cost to switch over. But if you really wanted to, as mentioned, you could sell the PC5 to recoup some funds. You can do that with a PC5 but on the PV, it will be "married" to your ECU and will only work on that bike unless you buy a license and upgrade it to work with multiple bikes. Selling it down the road is not as easy as it is to sell a PC5.

To get back to a stock tune on the PC5 fitted bike, you have to remove it. With the PV, you simply flash back to the stock map which is saved in the PV.

there's 2 ways to look at it.

when you buy a bike, it has a tune appropriate for the equipment on it. conversely, when you sell it with a pv tune, it has a tune appropriate for the equipment on it. it's on the purchaser to buy a tuning device if he wishes to change it.

or

sell the tuning device with the bike, and buy a new one for the new bike.

when I traded in my old bike, I kept the pv and bought the new license to use on the new bike. at that time, a new pv was close to $500 while the license ran me $200. not sure that I would give the pv to the dealer when trading in, I have my doubts as to whether they would give it to the new owner anyway.
