I talked to the rep at Baker during Bike Week he said that Harley was there and purchased the fix for 5th gear. I guess they will go back now and figure out how it's done. As for me I just turn the radio up.
oh man oh man oh man. this just has the ring of bs to it (at least to me) with all the engineers at hd, they have to go outside their company and figure out a fix? especially when a large component of that fix is a different cut gear? i dunno about this one.
It has a loud ring of BS to me. Why would HD risk the ignominy of buying a fix for their noises so obviously when they could simply mail-order it anonymously? I think they know the reasons for the noises and are addressing them, perhaps not quickly enough for owners, but they can't afford to have hundreds of owners complaining about noises that shouldn't be there.
Yet you still felt the urge to post regarding the "problem". Too funny. As for the whine, the bike not the posters, my 05 FLHPI makes more noise in 4th than my '07 Street Glide. I wouldn't trade my '07 for any prior year 88. I get to ride both daily and my '07 is head and shoulders above the '05.

I agree---put 550 miles on the Tour Classic this weekend and at times even the radio won`t drown out the noisethis is my 10th Harley inover 40 years of riding and I ain`t never had a scoot that sounds this bad---reckon it`s time to write to Harley and let them know---

Yep still had the urge...ok with you? You're right, I have no skin in the game at this point, but down the roadI will. Glad yours is working out for you....doesn't seem to be the case for as many others. Your post has a just a hint of justifying your purchase...that my friend is "funny
Really? I am the only happy one huh? Seems to me your post has just a hint of something else....... How about posting your educated opinion after you develop one.

I agree 100% I used to ride my buddies 05' RK quite a bit before I picked up my '07 and the noise his made in 4th gear was worse than any noise that comes out of my '07.
I know this is an old post and not sure if I'll get any replies with this, but I have the same noise on my 08 road glide. Although mine is in every gear above 10 mph. I was told it may be my breaks. When I pull the front brake it get louder and when I release it quiets down.
