Default Fuel door

I just took off that ugly live to ride fuel door on my new to me Ultra Limited and now can't get the damn thing back on. The semi circle notch on the hinge won't clear the filler neck. I didn't remove it when I removed the two small screws holding the door. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to get it to where the door will close. Any helpful pointers? Thanks in advance

Are you sure the hinge is getting jammed on the filler cap? Some thoughts:
Perhaps filler cap isn't on all the way.
Something is wedged in the recess the door folds into.
The screws securing the door to the hinge aren't all the way tight.

Not sure if you have the instructions. The diagram may be helpful

PS.... I like the "live to ride" fuel door.

I thought about that too, so I took the filler cap off and tried to work the hinge without the door attached and it's still catching on the filler neck. If it was working before I took off the old door, I know it will with the new one. As soon as I get back to the office, I'm gonna try it again. Thanks

The Live to Ride fuel door is a whole lot nicer to look at then my own reflection in the original door!

There are few mottos more idiotic than the "Live to Ride" crap. You will figure out the fuel door fitting issue and wisely install a door that does not identify you as a moron.

Maybe a different hinge setup? Maybe and OEM hinge setup is slightly different than what you have? I know my new fuel door came with a different hinge/mount.

"Ride to Eat"
"Eat to Ride"

Good luck sorting out the door / hinge issue.

Couldn't agree with ya more here about 'idiotic'...the guy I got my previous 2006 FLHX had all that crap on it...the irony was that he gave up riding when he had his first child, had three of them, then got back into riding when the last one became an adult. He do believe he missed the point! His actions were, of course, honorable, and I'm certain made sense. But 'ride to live, live to ride' it was not!

As for your other sentence about figuring it out, yeah, true statement. Ya just gotta futz with it until it comes together. Had the same issue a few weeks ago with mine, wasn't anything that anybody else hundreds or thousands of miles away could solve, so I kept after it until I sussed it out!

But then, once you get the lid figured out, where will you put the gas cap when you are filling up?

Edit: and oh yeah I prefer my "live to ride" cap over looking up my nostrils on the OEM one.
