Have a 2006 Ultra Classic been upgraded to 96 has a loud chain sounding noise coming from right side..figured it was cam chain tensioners..when we got it opened up it had been upgraded to Screaming Eagle Hydraulic cam plate and tensioners..Front side didn't seem loose...could the secondary be my problem?
Could be that the noise is actually coming from the left side and could be in your primary. Sometimes these noises are deceptive...use the screwdriver method to see if you can't narrow it down a bit...
If you can hear it, you shouldn't be riding it until you're located and /or fixed the issue.
As someone said earlier, its possible that you may be getting an echo from your primary chain but don't assume anything or take any unnecessary changes of damaging your engine.
The so-called Screaming Eagle Hydraulic cam plate and tensioners upgrade leave the inner chain as is with a link original. Total garbage. Harley screwed people from 1999 till about 2007 and twice for those people who purchased that garbage. Sadly, no one has sued them. They last about 20K and even less if someone modified the oil pressure spring. Peer in there and see if the chain link pins are hitting tensioner shoe.
And welcome from Hampton Roads Virginia. Love your User name. Never met a TN person who did not drive like a mad man.
