Can you guys tell me ( speed for each gear and what should the rpm's be.
Getting all different answers on this. They tell me it should not
Be ran under 1500rpms at any time. Looking for any help Thanks!!
you bike makes power from 2500 to 5000 rpms. running like a tractor will destroy the lower end bearings over time
you have a speedo and tach on your bike- but if you want a chart google
28_RatiosMPG-pg28.pdf
that'll get you a chart from andrews cams
when running at higher rpms, aside from having instant passing power at hand you can slow the motorcycle just by closing the throttle- this keeps the brakes cool for when you need them- this is crucial in canyon riding
I usually run in the 2500-3000 range. I try not to go below 2000 in the higher gears.
Agreed with ideal gas sipping RPM's but will on the high end push 4,000 when the mood suits for short periods (very short). On the flip side there is parade mode where they can be as low as what, 1,100 or so? Its a roll the dice equation as long as a person does not run a Harley like a crotch rocket.
This always starts a discussion. The reality is that low rpm by itself is no problem, if it were, no Harley would survive the first wait at a red light at about 1000 rpm. Low rpm and no load (idle) is no problem. Low rpm and high load-definite problem. If you can feel each power impulse after turning a corner or starting up a hill, you need to down shift NOW. If the power flows smoothly you are in good shape. As, easy as that.
Ride it. You will find out that under 2K rpm it doesn't have the guts to pull. Yet alone at 1500. Depending on the roads you are riding will determine how many rpm's and what gear you want to be in. On the HWY riding along with little to no traffic you can cruise along at 2K at 60 mph in 6th. No real reason to have to have power to accelerate out of a nasty situation. On city streets where cars are or could do anything imaginable. You want the bike to respond quickly. You will need to be in a much higher rpm range. Probably closer to the 3K plus range in whatever gear that needs to be. Nothing to worry about though. There are no hard set numbers because not everyone rides the same. You will figure out what works for you. Ride and enjoy. Go by the feel and not what is on the gauges.
The main thing is not to lug the engine. If your accelerating, keep it over 2,000. If your cruising at the same speed on a flat highway, it's not so important.
Don't get hung up on the tach for when to shift. If your staring at it while your accelerating or braking, your not looking at the road. You will crash. I have a road king with no tach. I also have a limited with a tach I never look at.
Come to think of it, the only time I look at the speedometer is when I set the cruise or want to look at the clock and see how late to work I am.
If it you give it gas and lug's, stumbles or doesn't want to go, down shift. Maybe even twice. If it starts stuttering on the rev limiter, up shift. Anything in between and your good.

Your going to get lots of different answers on this one. IMHO you should take your bike for a ride in an area without traffic around and find out what it likes and doesn't. As you roll into the throttle in any gear if the engine starts to chug then your to low in RPM. This point will change with gear and load on the bike so what maybe fine when you solo may well change when your two up and loaded. Try 4th gear at 2000 RPM and gently roll into the throttle and at some point you will feel it start chuging along and that is to much throttle for that engine speed and gear. Once you got the feeling of it chuging you will know what to avoid in any gear.

Anything under approx 2,100-2,200rpm is starting to lug the motor esp in 3rd or higher gears.
1,500rpm is too low rpm to normally cruise at,now doing 1,500rpm cruising in slow traffic in 1st and or 2nd gear short term is ok,but thats the ponly time i'd rec running @ 1,500rpm rpm or under 2,100-2,200rpm.
Most guys generally run / cruise in 2,500-3krpm range with stock to mild stage 1 setups, hotter cam'd motors require bit higher cruise rpm.
120R starts making real power around 3000rpm. Running that rpm or higher the slightest touch on the throttle and it jumps. Cruising I try to stay around 2200-2500 to smooth out throttle response.
