the "thing" with idle, reading plugs or going by smell is that you are based broad decisions on a very small portion of the motor's operation

on the road everything changes minute by minute depending on throttle position, rpm, air density, temperature, load, fuel octane etc etc.

in your big picture- FM or any builder's "kit" results are based on a system which includes tuner, intake and exhaust.
You'll do best to use their complete system- the type of parts they found works best with the other parts of their system

I think it's a good idea to have a system that autotunes if you want to be able to change components and not spend money on a dyno guy that may or may not know what he's doing. The Power vision with auto tune is a great option and should work fine. I myself have a Thunder Max but either way will work fine.

I'm thinking part of your problem is the true duals. I did a Fuel Moto 98" kit on my wife's bike a couple years ago. She was running V&H true duals as they give her the best leg clearance and she likes the look. It ran great and definitely had more power, but I always thought it to be lacking because of the exhaust. I should note that she also has a T-Max for a tuner.

This winter I took all the tins off her bike to get a custom paint job. I also purchased some Rinehart true duals that use a stepped header. The Rinehart true duals are supposed to tune similar to a 2-1-2 system and should increase the power output and allow my wife to have her true duals. Unfortunately, I can't give you any feedback yet as the tins won't be back from the painter for a couple weeks.

Switch exhausts. The exhaust can effect the FM107 builds plus or minus by as much as 20%

Ok spoke with FM today sent them the dyno print outs and they said the numbers are a little low. also said put a new header run the narrow band auto tune. and see what i does they will send me a new map with the header change no problem and can add target tune later if i want to so i think i will go that route ode the bike with there tune today and it runs as good if not a little better than the dyno tune now i need a stock crossover pipe and order the jackpot header. The folks at FM are great to work with so far very responsive

Everyone says that FM is great but in a previous post you said you didn't want to fight with the dealer over the tune. Sounds like you just hit on your problem. Most dealers don't do good tune work. Especially with non HD parts. Find an indy that had a good reputation for tuning and he'll make it right.

Good luck.

Are you buying a Jackpot head pipe then? The reason I ask is you will need stock heat shields for that head pipe.

First of all don't get hung up on the numbers. unless you are on the same dyno in the same environment comparing the results will be inconclusive.

Second is what edward just said. Most dealers tuning skills are sub-par. If they can start with all HD parts and a download from Harley as a base they do OK. If you throw aftermarket parts in the mix it is really hit or miss. Independents that tune for a living will best a dealer tune.
