If your guy pulled it down to change the bearing race and had to pull the pulley to get to it then he hade everything off including the belt so I'd bet something's not adjusted right

Such as the final drive belt? That's the only thing that he would have touched. I reassembled the rest of the primary drive. It's possible either the final drive belt is too loose or I didn't adjust the chain tensioner correctly. I just replaced everything in the primary drive, i.e., Stator, Baker Rotor, Baker Compensating sprocket, Baker Attitude Adjuster(chain tensioner), IPB and race. It was actually making this noise before I had the IBP pressed in and the race replaced. I thought that may have been the cause. The noise actually got worse after the indy shop took the final drive pulley off to install the new IPB race.

I had thought it was something with the clutch because, the only time I'm hearing the noise is when the bike decelerates as I'm down shifting and the RPMs rise as I'm letting the clutch out. I'm going to try and post a video of it somehow. Maybe I can reproduce the sound if I jack the bike up and get it in gear and shift up and down.

Good luck on the problem.

Wouldn't it be funny if it was something totally different - like brake pads or something?

lolol

Ya, it would. I've even tested that theory as well. Another thing I started to think about was the heat shields on the head pipes and mufflers. I did loosen the clamps at one time and could swear I tightened them back up. Hmmm... I may have to look at those tonight as well.

Did you replace the clutch plates and steels? Didn't see them listed.

Nope, haven't gone that far yet. I'm still attempting to figure out what is causing the strange squealing noise. It seems like I keep hearing noises and when I correct that problem, another shows up.

It all started with the rotor that shredded on me. I replaced that and the stator. Then the compensator started rattling. I replaced that with a Baker unit. Then, I started hearing primary chain noise. I replaced the tensioner with a Baker unit. Next, I thought the IPB was going bad. So, replaced that and the race.

In conclusion, I'm only hearing the noise when I am decelerating and down shifting as in, I downshift and let out the clutch and I hear a squealing noise. I downshift again, let out the clutch and I hear the noise again.

I hope that made sense.

I've found that the squeal is usually the drive belt needing adjustment, typically needs to be tightened a bit.

But, wouldn't that squeal when riding it and not just when the bike is decelerating? I'm only hearing the noise when the clutch is engaged and I'm downshifting.

But ya, that's another thing I'm going to be checking on. Thanks!

Do you use the friction zone when slow riding? Does it make noise then? My thinking is a piece of trash/rotor may have gotten between clutch plates/steels and only sounds off when the clutch is being slipped.

after doing much the same work on the primary. similiar thing happened. pulled the cover and found the comp was rubbing the inside of primary cover. .found the comp/sprocket was 0.037 outbound. Grinded the rotor raised area were the comp sat on it down to as close to zero, then retorqued comp and ground a little off inside primary.

just a thought
