If I understand most of you h/d is now useing 20/50 in trans but many have switched but to a 75/90 gear oil { my dealer put belray at my 1000 mile which I belive is 75/90 } my question is where do I buy it . A auto parts store ?? is redline heavyduty shockproof syn ??? Is mobil 1 syn gear oil in auto parts ok for a motorcycle ?? Does anyone know is belray syn ??
The Mobil 1 75-90 should be fine to use. Another option is AMSOIL SVG 75-90. Both are gear oils. For the BelRay stuff try a marina/boat dealer or other bike dealers

I'm running the AMSOIL SVG 75-90, seem to be working well.
most auto big box stores sell gear lube. having syn in there doesn't really make a difference, you change it about every other oil change. I oil change at 3000 and gear/primary lube at 6000. I keep an eye on the color and get my finger wet to check for foreign content between times. I do happen to run syn, I don't know of any particular benefits to do it in the tranny.
Just put in AMSOIL 75w140 severe gear in my trans. Can't give you review on any difference because I have'nt road it since the change from the H-D syn3 20w50.

I need to change mine. I had Syn3 installed in all 3 holes at my 1k service. At first, I thought it was ok. When runnig hot, it is very hard to find neutral and shift back to 1st.
I just bought Mobil 1 V-twin and will get some gear oil as well.
My point; I don't understand engine oil in a tranny. there are gears that need to have a coating. running highways generates heat and the gear lube does a better job coating the gears under these circumstances.
When I drag raced, I ran ATF in a manual trans and diff. short distance, less roll resistance, there were benefits to doing so. Today there are lubricants that accomplish the same in drag racing and are made for the application. But I would not run ATF in those holes in a street application.
I use RevTech fully synthetic in all 3 holes in my '07 Electraglide. Engine's quieter, runs cooler, tranny is quieter (especially 5th gear) and neutral is easier to find. However, what works for me and my bike may not work with you and your bike. I've found over the years after owning several different Harley's that each on kinda has its own personality. You will get all kinds of recommendations and opinions from alot of different people on this topic because it seems to be one of the most contraversial subjects on here, but listen the advise, opinions and experience from others and hopefully that will help you make a decision.
