Indiana changed the material used on the crack fill. The result is making the tar snakes as slick as Ice. Even cars slide on it. Indiana 46 between Bloomington and Nashville is so treacherous, most riders are avoiding it, and there have been reports of equally bad roads around the Salem area. Please take time to let INDOT know of our concerns. It is a safety issue.

The section mentioned above was absolutely destroyed as far as I'm concerned.
It's still a beautiful drive in a car, but is now a total bust on a bike... at least in warm/hot weather.
46 east of Nashville was given the "Chip n Seal" treatment effectively destroying it as well.
Damn shame.
Given that Nashville tried unsuccessfully to ban motorcycles a few years ago and have even gone so far as to repave/restripe the road through town eliminating all parking so that bikes could no longer park along the main street, I've often wondered if the "Fixes" were applied to discourage motorcycles from entering Nashville at all.
oh... sorry for intruding in the Touring section.
Did a Search on Tar Snakes and ran across this thread and had recent experience on this stretch of road and couldn't resist commenting.
@Tarkus60... hope the increased tire pressure helps out some and at least makes tar snakes at least somewhat bearable.
