I have a 2010 Limited with 38k miles. This weekend I was backing it up in neutral with engine off and noticed a noise coming from primary side. I have since put it up on lift and rolled rear wheel, I could best describe noise as a sloppy gear sound when rolling it back and forth but it's in neutral when it does it. Using a stethoscope, it is loudest in lower half of clutch inspection plate. I will tear into it this week but looking for clues as to what to look for. Thanks.
but when i roll my bike backwrds, the belt tracks to the inside and might rub, the brake disk might contact the caliper and the tranny shaft is moving and so are some of the gears in the tranny

Although the trans is in neutral, when rolling the bike the internals will rotate with the rear wheel, or at least some parts will. Oil drag may well rotate the clutch a little, so the noise may be the primary chain, especially if there is significant slack. Just a guess!

I have a video but when trying to upload it says file not found.
first place i would start looking would be the wheel bearing or the maindrive gear bearing. get it up in the air and roll the wheel forward and listen. mainsahft is not turning when bikes off and in netural, but maindrive gear is. look for crap stuck in the belt first. i was getting a clunk out of my maindrive gear bearing while rotating the rear wheel and only after setting the belt tension correctly. loosen up the belt and no noise. it was toast after only 12,000 miles.
I know I am going to have to tear it apart to find the current problem. Depending on what I find wrong, what are some of the common wear items that I should look into replacing while I am in there? Thanks.

I had a 2010 Road Glide and it made that noise you are speaking of but never thought anything about it. Come to find out the 5th gear bearing was worn, mine had 40K miles, I had another bearing failure also prior to that one, I think that was the primary shaft bearing.
The reason I took it in was that I had a lot of metal on the drain plug magnet and the trans oil was very gray even after a 100 mile ride...
Not gospel, just what happened to me.....
I loved my 10, but mechanically it was the worst bike owned.
Could be the transmission main bearing. I personally am not fond of the auto tensioner in the primary drive. It seems that it gets too tight and when it does it's going to be the main bearing or the left engine bearing. I prefer a manual adjustment with about 3/4" play in the primary chain.
