I have much the same questions, so I will tag onto here. I have decided to go for a Daymaker clone from amazon. There are a bunch of them between 50 and 100 bucks. Does anyone have any input on which of the rip offs is the BEST of the rip offs?
before you purchase one of those daymaker knock offs watch the video on youtube from HR(headlight revolution."which 7 " round led headlight is best"Its a good break down of the 12 most popular led headlights, the good and bad.check it out.
1340hog beat me to it. Great video that is very informative. Worth every minute of watching it. There are a few good lights out there, they are ALL made by either Truck lite or J&W..(the good ones).
I had a Honda VTX with a led made by J&W. I would wash out the cheaper leds when I would pull beside them. There is a difference.
As far as passing lights I myself prefer them. I turn them just a little out ward and added the Kurakyne adapter to allow lights to stay on with high or low beam.

I was looking for that YouTube video just as you posted your message. Great idea.
I've had the Truck Lite's for 3 years now, 7" and aux. The main is a dang laser beam, especially on bright. It has a good white color which really helps out my aging eyeballs in the deep dark. I do notice that low speed turns, even with the aux lights on, are kind of dark. Low speed as in turning left or right at an intersection or into my driveway. I could probably go a long way to fixing that if I knew how to adjust the floods. Too busy riding to look up the procedure
If your headlight has an H4 bulb, just order a 90W/130 bulb on Amazon. Costs fifteen bux or less. Order a high heat headlight pigtail from the same place. If ya want to upgrade your spotlights, get you a couple of 100 watt aircraft landing light bulbs. About eight bux per on Amazon. Wire in a Bosch relay, and sub in 14 gauge wire from the relay to the bulbs.
Easy peasy. Cheap. Turns night into day, but don't turn it all on when riding behind yer buddy, day or night. You'll catch his neck hair on fire.
My experience - I converted my softail (small housing) to a PIAA Powersports Xtreme White H4 60/55 Watt Bulb, still not bright enough so I went to an HD Daymaker. Later I purchased 2012 Street Glide (larger light housing), did not think it was bright enough so I replaced the stock bulb with the PIAA previously used in the softail and aimed it a little bit higher. BIG difference between PIAA and stock, more light thrown in the correct pattern. I think I will keep the PIAA in the SG ilo purchasing another daymaker. The larger housing definitely gets more light out there. IMO (I have not personally used one, just saw a friend try one) the led bulbs do not have the same/proper focal point to focus the beam but they do output more light, just not focused.
