Good morning all,
I'm writing on behalf of my husband, who is beyond sick with this bike at this point.
It started with needing to replace the inner fairing on his 2010 Electra Glide Ultra Classic. He's owned and worked on upwards of 40+ bikes in the time that I've known him, so he's very well-versed on how to do basic maintenance and repairs. Please note that all electrical and sound components were working fine before all of this.
He disassembled the wiring, meticulously tagging each and every wire so that it could go back just as he found it... something he's done plenty of times in the past. Currently, he's running the stock head unit with a Biketronics 4180 amp and Titan speakers. All of the wiring went back pretty effortlessly without any hitches, until he went to check all of the components.
First, the display on the head unit wouldn't come on. After checking the fuses, he discovered a bad one, changed it out and the display came back on. However, there continues to be no sound... at all. He did a reset on the head unit, but that didn't work. He's checked and re-checked all of the wiring and everything is where it should be and tight.
He's pretty much at a loss and we're reaching out to the forum to see if anyone might offer a suggestion of something he maybe hasn't tried.
Your community expertise is greatly appreciated and I'm hoping with your help we might just find the solution.
I have the same bike a few years ago I trailered it to sturgis my radio was fine for 5 minutes out of the trailer then quit when I got home I sent it to iron cross audio to be checked and low and behold believe it or not over time it became damaged by the bolts that hold the handle bas down they were hitting the bottom of the radio ( the heads of the bolts were too big) iron cross updated the unit and sent me a copy of the bulletin from Harley that included the part numbers of the new bolts.
is there a fuse on the amp's power wire? also, I would try running a line in to the rca plugs on the amp, using the headphone jack on my iPhone, basically eliminating the stock hu from the equation. if you get sound then, you know it is something in the hu. if you don't get sound, then you can focus your troubleshooting on the amp.
Update: he just ran the head unit directly to the speakers. That works. The the issue is with the amp. Calling Biketronics and hopefully they'll honor the lifetime warranty.
