For those who want to wear protective clothing, even when the temperature is in the upper 80s and 90s, I can strongly recommend the new Harley-Davidson mesh jacket. It has protective armor in the shoulders and elbows, 2 inside and 2 outside zippered pockets, is reasonably attractive (black and gray with orange pin striping to separate the colors), has a HD logo over the left chest, and a reflective logo on the back.
I've had one for about a month now, and find it to be very comfortable on hot days. Believe it or not, at a list of $150, it's very competitively priced with Joe Rocket and other companies that manufacture mesh jackets. From my perspective, it's a "keeper."
I have a Joe Rocket mesh and like it alot. That H-D jacket sounds nice though. Haven't seen it yet so I will have to run down to my dealer and check it out. Used mesh last year riding in temps in the 90's. Still get a tad hot in slow traffic, but once in motion its almost like wearing just a tee shirt only without the sunburn. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Mesh jackets are the best thing in riding gear to come out in years.
We are using First gear Mesh Jackets. Lots of protection, and cool too.
newenough.com, is a great place to buy from and are reasonable. I had to reorder a largeer size, and they did an exchange at no charge.
I too have the HD Mesh jacket with the armour. I rode with it all summer in the Texas heat. I rode home from the ROT rally with it. The temps were 90-95 for nearly the entire trip home. In stop and go it is warm, but once you are moving its not different then wearing a T-shirt. It also covers your arms.
Lots of riders haven't yet discovered the benefits of riding in mesh. I wore my 1st Gear in comfort all the way to Sturgis last year. The only time I found it too hot was while doing the "duck walk shuffle" thru Sturgis -- nothing will help while in that mess. With a light liner, I've found it's good down into the upper 50s.
I took the mesh jacket one step (and a lot more dinero) further and made the investment in the HD 3-in-1 Switchback jacket with the zip off front & back panels, removeable body armor and rain liner. Went the extra bucks to get an all weather jacket. Montana is a weird weather place: 103 in July until a cold front drops in out of the mountains and it drops to 40. Essentially 1 jacket for the price of 3 separate jackets.
Today I bought a HD mesh jacket. Silver and Black, list for $85, I got 20% off. It does not come with Armor but has the pockets for it. I have Armor in all my other riding jackets so I removed the armor from my winter jacket and put it inmy newsummer mesh jacket. It doesn't look as cool as my leather but it is very functional. It's a keeper!
