I was wondering whether the following performance issue was characteristic to my model or whether it is just my particular bike showing this behaviour.
The behaviour I am referring to is that, when starting the bike, the starter will briefly "pause" before cranking away happily.
Is this just my bike or is it typical for my model? i.e. do any other 2014 FLHTK owners' bikes exhibit this behaviour?
Mine did the same thing with the stock battery. I kept it on a trickle charger when not riding. After 2 years I finally got paranoid and purchased a yuasa GYZ32HL battery and the issue went away.

That's just the thing - I replaced the battery last year and the bike exhibited this behaviour since the battery was new.... It was a HD battery I replaced it with - maybe they just suck?
My 04 does this as well. From the time I got it, about five years ago, with a brand new hd battery. A half second pause after it engages, then it spins merrily.
I have the same great looking bike and yes it happens to me but after every 6 starts or so. Not every time but its something that I notice when it happens... a split second pause and then it fires right up. I do keep mine on a trickle charger only if I know I wont be using it daily.

^^^ That^^^
From day one my bike starter seemed to act the same way, was told its normal.
I assumed it was the lower /weaker/quality battery and would replace it someday.
Well that someday arrived 2 years and 2 months later, when the battery was almost completely dead.
I replaced it with the same Yuasa GYZ32 and as I expected the Yuasa cranks my bike over with gusto like the OEM battery never did.
