Default FP3 installed and I got a Problem.

I just installed a V&H FP3 on my 2012 StreetGlide. Went fairly smooth, Flashed the correct map and went for a ride.

After the first ride I get message on my radio screen ever time I turn it on. It says "Diagnostic Active Keyboard Disabled". I've found that if I turn it off, then back on, the message flashes then the radio performs as normal then I shut the bike off for a lunch break, turn it on the screen shows the "Diagnostic Active Keyboard Disabled" again, but this time it stays on. No use of radio, CD, Aux.

HELP!!!

Googled and found another forum that says it's normal and to remove the FP3, but I've never experienced it or read on these forums that ever happening. I'd call V&H on Monday and ask them.

to fix your issue requires a sequence change.

before starting yout bike, turn handlebar run switch to run

then turn iginition switch on.

if you cut iginition switch to on then cut on handlebar run switch it will always show diag.

the fp3 is looking for power which it gets when the handlebar run switch is in the run position

you DO NOT have to remove tbe FP3 unless you want to.

to leave it attached so you can monitor functions.

handlebar run switch to RUN
then turn iginition switch to ON

Hah. Thanks for the procedure to eliminate this. Seen it a bunch of times. Never noted any adverse impact - radio buttons seem to keep working.

Just got off the phone with a V&H support tech and he claims I have to leave the FP3 unhooked to the data link. Apparently the Harmon Kardon units can't work with a plugged in FP3. Well that's a crock of crap. So if and when I want to auto tune, I have to connect it back up and ride with no use of the HK? How un-American. The tunes cranked up is how I want to auto tune.
However, if BigSky's method will make the two get along then I will try it......or is that only for the newer touring bikes with the Touch Screen?

You can't connect to the FP3 with the APP to do an auto-tune and play music from your phone at the same time. This requires 2 concurrent bluetooth connections to your phone and it's a no go.

You can leave the FP3 connected under your side panel at all times and as long as you aren't connected through the app, you can play music from your phone all day.

If you're auto-tuning or watching sensors on your phone, you can still play music from a USB stick, the radio or satellite while you do so through your head unit.

this is also correct, cant run two blue tooth connections. mostly rushmore bike concerns as older model do not have Bluetooth installed as a factory option

This depends on your phone. I'm running a Galaxy S6 - it uses the Bluetooth media connection to hook to the BT receiver plugged into my saddlebag iPod dock, but that doesn't impact it's non media connection to the FP3.

I routinely run auto tune or gauge monitoring via the FP3 connection while streaming Pandora to the BT receiver, which plays over the HK radio.

Auto tune and HK radio work fine simultaneously.

I have a Rushmore and an FP3. I start my bike normally - ignition switch then handlebar switch - and I get no messages on my screen.
