Default PITA installing dockable sissy bar

I bought the 4 point docking kit from Surdyke, and the sissy bar from my dealer. The rear docking slots on the sissy bar are too narrow for the spacer/docking points. Anyone else have this problem?

I'm going to go to HD to see if they have a smaller diameter spacer. If that doesn't work...then off to my HD dealer. I don't want to grind open the slot, because then it will rust.

I've been careful with what I buy from Surdyke, to make sure it's stuff I shouldn't have issues with. So..I'll just tell my dealer I bought the docking kit from a friend...

Then to really **** me off. When is was removing the spacer from the down side of the bike, it fell off and rolled out the garage, and down the driveway before I realized it. When is saw it rolling, it made a sharp turn and went into the landscape bark. And now I can't find the sucker!!!

Edit: Duh...I just though of testing if the latch will go over the spacer...and it won't!! Crap..hopefully HD can bail me out, or I just ate the cost of the docking assembly.

You can turn the spacers around to give you more lateral clearance if you need it. Notice that one end is thicker than the other.

Also, the black plastic piece isn't perfectly round. It's oblong so that you can turn the spindle to adjust how tight of a fit you want. The instructions spell out how to do all of this with regard to notches that are imprinted on the spindle.

OP: Oh crap!! I put the chrome spacers on the outside...whereas they are supposed to go on the inside. With this correction, and rotating the bushings to the loosest position.everything went in place like butter on a hot skillet. And the rack and sissy bar are solid.

Edit: Oh yeah, and I found the spacer went AWOL.

DUH!!!

Haha, hey, it happens. Glad you got it figured out before taking it back to HD. If you use the backrest a lot or find yourself constantly putting it on and taking it off, be aware that those plastic spindles will wear and you may experience a loose fit over time. Easy fix since you can just rotate them to tighten the fit back up.

Nice, glad you figured it out with some help. Sissy bars, Side plates and Docking hardware are all just a little different. The Drag/CCI/Paughco/H-D stuff will normally need to be purchased as complete packages. Very rarely can you inter change them, and it is intentional....

The plastic docking points can be had that are made out of aluminum and will last. I can't find the link right now but I'm sure someone here knows.
