2007 road king hot start

the bike starts great when its cold but if i take it for a ride and the bike gets hot it makes a clunking noise
what is the problem and fix for this

Sounds like the compensator to me. You can buy the Screaming Eagle one that's supposed to fix it or the Baker Compensator. On my '09 I can make it happen less often and with less force by waiting longer to start the bike after turning on the ignition and the start switch. I'll replace my compensator next time I have to have the bike open for some other reason.

You can also do a lot test on your Battery. Check all you grounds to you battery, frame to battery and and starter cables, without a full 12.6 volts, being the piston rings have expanded, it takes more juice to start the motor. The clunk may be the motor trying to turn over, until your lag in voltage catches up. Worth 15 minutes of your time....
