Default Got this symptom after Digital Guard Dawg installation

After installing digital guard dawg, i got this funny symptom when starting my FI 2005 FLHRCI
When the start button is pressed,
the engine cranks once, pauses for ~0.5sec, Speedo displaygoes blank, display comes back on, engine cranks again a few more times, and finally the bike starts.....

Before the guard dawg installation, i did not have such problem.
I wonder what happen to my bike...
Is it a weak battery?

There wasone time, it paused for so long that the battery power got completely cut off, and when the power came back on, the bike alarm sounded(beep twice[reset/initiallized]).

Have you guys have similar experience like this before? (with or without guard dawg)

Extra info, during the guard dawg installation, The starterrelay was replaced with a radio Fq microchiped relay. (i thought a relay is just a relay whichdoes the switching. it shouldn't draining the battery that badly, but i may be wrong here.)

Any tip is appreciated...

I was thinking of adding this to my '05 rk custom. Let me know what you kind out. Have you tried removing the guard dawg and seeing if you still have the same problem?

I just installed this system and it works perfect. I would suggest to check the connection to the battery where you bolted the supplied u-plug for power. The instructions say to make sure this if tight or the bike could be hard to start...good luck and let us know what you find.

You installed the wrong relay. Road kings have the half relay the same as a softail under the left side cover. They grouped road kings in with electraglides and are not the same. I just went through this on a buddies bike. You will have to call and get the correct set up. Mike

I read over and over from the website for the right part number to order, it is DGD-1, and also bought an adaptor with P/N DGD-AD-1 specifically for RoadKing year 2004-2006. Everything fits right. I am not sure if i have still ordered wrongly here.....

Yes i am aware of 2 types of relay..oneis small tiny relay(half the size) and another is bigger one(this is the one i ordered)

I did tried to pull the wire after i crimp it to the u connector..and made sure it was tightly secured to the + side of the battery.

The only thing i do not like, or not sure is, where to place the relay. One end of the adaptor is connected the the fusebox(i assume the name is) another end of the adaptor is kind of long(about 1 foot)

I ended up doing this.
-On the cover of the fusebox, cut with penknife to remove some materials from the side wall.
-Let the adaptor wirebunch to come out from the side wall.
-run the adaptor wirebunch to the seat.
-slip the other end of adaptor through the TSMM relay rubber housing
-plug in the DGD relay into the adaptor end.
-rest the DGD relay right beside the TSM and the TSM relay.
-connect the little wire to the + side of Battery.
-Cover the seat.

How did you do yours?

Unfortunately i have not removed it since installed.

The reason is because, i wasn't sure about the electrical stuff.
When connecting the little wire to the + side of battery, when the whole bunch ofconnectors were about to be loosened from the + side, my aftermarket alarm sounded~~~!

I wasshocked by the noise the alarm created. Made a few calls to friends..disconnected the negative side as well. Secured the + side first, then the -ve side. Alarm sounded again!,,for 2 beeps...

Fortunately at the end, the DGD works...

So i told myself...don't remove the DGD until myshock is cured...

hahah

Call this guy:

Michael - 601-550-6467

This is his cell phone number and he designed the adapter for the DGD and helped the inventor design the whole package. He is a wealth of knowledge and will get you straightened out ASAP. This is his cell number and I post it here with his permission. He is not only helpful but very patient and willing to help. Good luck and keep us posted! BTW he is in Mississippi so call accordingly in relation to time............

Guard Dogs listing is wrong for the roadking. Call them directly and they will help you figure out that it's the wrong setup and setup a exchange. They are very friendly. Road king starter relays are under the left side cover, not under the seat. I you are using the relay under the seat, it is not the starter relay and the cause of the trouble.

Hi Rmc115,

Thanks for sharing with me i got the wrong relay.
I will contact with Michael, the seller right away to understand my problem.

Just a side note, yes the relay is at the side cover for Road king. In there there were 2 relays. one for brake light, and one for starter. i replaced the starter relay with DGD. Because the adaptor is long, i did not wind it up and hide behind the sidecover, instead, i lay the other end of adaptor to the TSM area under the seat. The relayis electrically connected at the side cover fusebox, but is physically resting under the seat.

wow...a long side note...thanks...
