Default Engine crash bar give questions 05

I have an 05 electraglide and I came to a stop on an overlook with gravel and my foot slipped out from underneath me and the bike went down, no visual damage to speak of thanks to all the bars being intact. I haven't had this bike but for a couple of weeks. I rode her home just fine but when I put my feet up on my highway pegs on the crash bar there seemed to be left and right movement. I tightened up the three bolts holding everything in and it got significantly better but there is still a little bit of give, is this normal? Don't see any bends in it and it appears strait, no cracks in mounting points or frame that I can see.

just make sure all three points are really tight. mine was t-boned last week by a 70 yr old woman that drove right into the side of me. everything looked good but bars were able to move a little and would vibrate like a tuning fork if i kicked either side. found a crease in the bar where it had hit the frame now all integrity is shot. will replace soon.

I got on my other bike , 03 Roadstar that I always believed to be solid as a rock and found it had the same deflection, made sure everything was tight on both and I think this is just something I never noticed before hand but I am being hyper vigalint due to the drop. It's seems just to be my weight settling on it.

If it turns out that you decide to replace it I would stay with stock engine guard as it is much more stout than the Lindby. The Lindby looks cool but with highway pegs you can really tell how much flex there is. Have them on one of the bikes.

Yeah, I have a little give in my engine guard with my feet on the highway pegs.

I also note a bit of deflection of my engine guard when my feet are on the hiway pegs.

You know it is not a crash bar, it is a light bar ! Legalize for, " we can't call it a "Crash Bar" because people will sue us when it doesn't protect you, in a crash". Crash Bars have protected a lot people from loosing there legs and feet, tho there is probably someone where that was not the case. All and all, i think they do help if you go down, and know that many of my Bagger friends swear by them. It sounds like you may have tweeked the bar on your little mis-hap and it may have compromised the integrity of the steel. Like an earlier post, the Lindby Bar, is made of heavier steel tubing and if you can afford it, i would invest in one. It's cheap insurance, should you ever need it.
