So...i read all of the listings. I'm FAIRLY sure I have an inner primary leak BUT...I kinda feel like I have a leak between the transmission main shaft and the drive shaft that's internal to it? It looks like it has a slight weep...but I'm not sure how to get it out. Am I to remove the right side of the bike and slide the main shaft out? The manual looks like I have an oring between the two, and that's the only thing I think is leaking. I also bought the Baker primary seal/bearing kit (forums advice) and will install that, just curious if I am supposed to dig out that other one.
HONESTLY...if I need to pull the clutch cover side off I'm gonna break out the ol ladies credit card and get one of those Ultima 6 speed updates I've been reading about.... otherwise I'll just slap the seals on and ride AND not have to sleep on the couch for the next few months!! Any help would be appreciated!
btw..Ive been fixing and putting my scooter together solely on advice/recommendations/tips from you guys. How the hell did the old timers get **** done before ratchet wrenches and forums??

There weren't many of us! Back in the '70s when I bought my first one, H-D only made around 30k bikes a year, but the bikes were much simpler to service. The MoCo has also always published great service manuals.
If you don't have a genuine FSM do get one, as that will provide most of what you need to know. There is a seal in the back of the primary inner cover, plus another one behind the front pulley, in the transmission casing. Either of those may be leaking. As a general rule, if your leak isn't too bad, it will be either one or the other of them and the origin should be easy to find. Clean and degrease thoroughly, then take for a ride until the first signs of oil appear.
Oh the seal on the inner primary was leaking no doubt. I see the lip busted. BUT...I smell the gear oil from the tranny. I MAY be overthinking it but I have all that stuff off anyway...if I fix the primary and still have a leak from that tiny oring between the two shafts I'll kick my own ***! I'm just kind of curious how to get to it...ive got the whole left side of the bike apart. AND the manuals, so it shouldn't be too bad...just want to do it right! Gonna hit the squealership and get all the seals and orings I need after lunch. Including the shift shaft seal. Justincase!
Back in the day, it was just part of the deal to ride...then wrench! To me getting totally immersed in Harleys was...to me...fun! Before the world wide web, it seemed like the dealers and indies were more forthcoming in coughing up info that would help us rider/wrenches! And they weren't gentle when we asked stupid questions or didn't follow their advice! Not too many 'bad *** Real Bikers' back then!
