Default Stage 1.5

Okay so I'm currently running a Stage 1 96" in my Road King. SE AC, No Cat, Slip On's, Map from Fuel Moto via PV.

I have 32,000 on the bike and after a bunch of research have settled on going with Cams for my next upgrade. Andrews 48's seem to be what I need to light up the performance where I need it.

My initial thought is Adjustable Push Rods, Cams, Cam Install Kit, and Timken Bearings should take care of the shopping list. The one thing I'm up in the air on is Lifters? With 32K is it a for sure thing tgatvill need them or do I check for wear marks when the bikes opened up?

If you're running these Cams are you happy with them? Are they too noisy? Did they give a classic harley lope at idle? Are the torque gains enough to make you grin when you roll on it? Do they add a few MPH to the Top Speed? I use to be able to get it over 110 until I calibrated the speedo. Now that the speedo is set reality is between 105-110. Not looking for a ton up top but flirting with that 120 would be good enough for me.

With a F.I. engine you'll never get that "Harley Lope" out of any cam you choose. A new set of lifters aren't very expensive and sure won't hurt anything either.

i have a 2010 road glide with a 96 that has andrews 48s. they pull great, fuel economy is approx 40, after tuning with FP3, about 100 ft lbs of torque

easily pull 120 on corrected speedo, little better sound. im happy, but i have other hot rod bikes.

i replaced the lifters, and am about to replace them again as i have 15k on the replacements.

lifters in a harley are a wear item, get use to it.

Harley lifters have been known to be a weak spot....

You should have the "B" lifters, which aren't as bad as the "C" lifters, but while you are in there, I believe it would be cheap insurance to get a good set of lifters..

Thanks I'll add lifters to the shopping list.

I know I'm not going to sound like a shovel head but I'm still looking forward to something a little better than stock. FI or not a cammed bike always sounds better than stock.

Get quality lifters like S&S or Jims, if you are going this far you may
want to think about roller rocker arms also since it will be apart.

My thought was to cut out the Stock Push Rods and go with adjustable so I wouldn't have the need to open up the top.

I'm going to hold off on a Wild Build until the motor needs a fresh top and bottom. At that point I'll be looking at crossing over to the other side of 120". Port Polish, Bigger Intake, Roller Rockers, Big Cams... You know something in the 120/120 range.

My Stage 2 96" with what I'm guessing to be a SE255 has a bit of a 'lope' at idle, not to be confused with the 'potato potato' idle of the dual fire, carbed idle of the Evos and previous engines...as has been previously pointed out. But not stock either.

I'd recommend changing the lifters when you do the cam swap, it's money well spent.

Cam choice really depends on your riding style as there are so many variables to consider.

I looked at both the Wood 222 and Andrews 48, but in the end I decided on the bigger mid-range focused Wood 555s. They work great with my 96" (despite what some will say) and will work well with a stock headed 107, which may or may not be in my future. I did buy an all Fuel Moto package and everything is well matched and the tune is amazingly close for mail order. Cam kit came with adjustable pushrods and Wood lifters.

The bike runs so well I may end not doing a 107. Certainly not this year, that's for sure.

In full disclose I have not ridden a touring bike with the Andrews 48, but so many guys swear by them for the 96TC it's a no brainer if you never plan on going bigger than 96. I think the Wood 222s cost a little more, and are a little more aggressive. There's plenty of posts to research, starting here:
