would it make more sense to look for a used engine? I would. there are lots of wrecks ( unfortunately ) start your search and bargain like hell.

I had not considered that option. Guess I was stuck on not wanting to go lower then the 110ci that was in the bike. Looking on ebay 103ci can be had pretty reasonably. Great 1 more direction to consider.

Following up on what oakmossy said I did some surfing on Ebay looking at engines and found a few deals. Does anyone have any idea what year ranges I am looking for on the engine? Will a 2010 Streetglide 103 bolt right into my 08 Ultra?

I am very happy with the price and service I got from Fox River Cycle. They sell on ebay but you can negotiate a better price if you contact them directly because they don't have to pay fees to ebay.

This really sucks for the OP. When I was considering buying my father's 2000 RKC from him, I started looking around for engines. What a PITA with so many crazy options. In the end I didn't buy it from him.

Now, with that said, I have a 2014 Limited with the twin cooled 103. Engine is 100% stock, same with AC and exhaust minus some SE Street Canons. I now have over 100k miles on this motor and it still runs like a champ. No internal work performed minus clutch upgrade to Rekluse TorqDrive (@70k) and compensator to a Baker (@95k). Most of the guys I know changing up cams and whathaveyou end up rebuilding or replacing at half the miles. I am sticking with how it is because I like riding it more than fixing it, lol

I didn't have the throttle body, injectors, or clutch when I did mine, so there's some expense you'll not encounter as part of this project like I did. Because, as others have said, shavings have to go somewhere, I also replaced my oil pan. I stayed with the stock size, but some go with larger. Either way, I just didn't have confidence in being able to get all of the shavings out of that chambered oil pan.

Another expense is the tuner. I assume you've already got something, but that is another potential expense.

I had not even considered the oil pan. As for a tuner when I bought the bike it came with both a SE tuner and a TTS tuner.

Where are you located, that would help us in recommending some good people to help you get through this with the least headache & $$ spent.
