I am fine going with the same cam again just wondering if there is anything better out there. Guess I need to learn how to rebuild a Twin Cam, LOL.
Before you finalize any decisions about sleeving / repairing the lifter bores, pull the crank position sensor and check for metal, also pull the jugs and rotate the crank, check the bearings, the cases & crank need to be checked over good, if bearings are contaminated then new cases or a crate motor might be the less expensive way out...

I'd go with T-Man's new 585s... S&S Lifters...

High Valve Spring Pressures are the biggest source of lifter issues...

As far as building a 117,,, Cheap, Fast, Reliable, Pick any 2...

...but you're getting further away from your original economical repair. ..six grand may pay for the engine but you'll have labor, tax, shipping yada yada on top of that. To me, sleeving is YOUR best option. ..new engine is THE best option!

I know. I have changed my mind about a million times on which way to go. Told my wife last night that I was frustrated and was just gonna say **** it. Push the bike in the corner for the winter and throw any and all money I can come up with in savings. See what is in there come Feb/March and let that decide the direction.

That to me is your best option. During the winter, you may find the wherewithal to afford the BEST way!

That is what I am now leaning towards. I am sure I will change my mind tomorrow, lol. Anyone who has gone with the S&S 124 have any input on surprise expenses? I know you have to get the oil line kit but anything else? I talked with S&S yesterday and they said I would be good to go with my SE 58mm throttle body and bigger injectors. Bike already has a Rivera clutch in it. I would be doing all the labor myself with the help of a very knowledgeable buddy.

This is precisely why I'd just bite the bullet and replace the case... I'd prefer to completely rebuild the lower end in the process, and be completely confident this was a one-time replacement. Those shavings went somewhere... and everywhere.

Bro I truly think the 124 would money you won't regret in and for the long run. That will be a special machine after all is said done and one that would cost a LOT more to duplicate - meaning you will never get 'there' for less.

...and ya know what OP? It doesn't HAVE to be the biggest you can buy, either! There are smaller, less powerful engines that are less expensive that will do the job quite well.

There's a temptation to get all caught up in the biggest and baddest. ..but at the end of the day, these are touring bikes. ..not street racers!
