Good point above - consider you end game/goal. However the 'Touring' element means 'heavy'. Weight is a huge factor in performance, therefore the extra power will be a significant improvement .

For what it's worth, I'm reading a lot of good ideas on directions you could go with this. I like your idea of parking the bike, saving money until early spring, then deciding what to do. It gives you time to save funds and thoroughly explore options as well as decide exactly what your end goal is.
Also, doing the work yourself or with a friends help, will save a fortune. The extra time will also give you time to research and study a service manual on engine tear down and rebuild or replacement.

All good thoughts and ideas. That is why I have changed my mind half a dozen times just since yesterday. I think by putting the bike in the corner of the shop and putting away anything I can in savings till closer to spring will keep me from making any rushed decisions.

Oh, you'll change your mind at least three dozen more times! And that's okay, you're not in a hurry...I don't think I would be able to say the same! Like others have said, should you decide to put more into your bike than your original plan, this is a good time to seek more power. They ARE heavy machines, and more power can translate to more fun...within reason, of course!

S&S 124 is by far THE BEST option. It'll be my next motor for sure.

Check this out? Maybe this is an option for you. You could make him an offer less than asking price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2007-17-SOFT...pZmdhn&vxp=mtr

OP, in the latest issue of American Iron, I believe Issue #56, there is an article on installing bushings in the lifter bores. You might want to take a peek. Also, on the pages following that article, there is Part Two of an article on installing gear cams in a Twin Cam engine.

This might be some beneficial reading for you...

Veekness, thanks for the tip. I will have to see if I can find that article on the net. Having said that I have pretty much made up my mind on going with the S&S 124LC. With that in mind does anyone have any leads on where to get 1 for the best price?
