Default Voltage gauge

Guessimg this is a pretty simple answer, but my voltage gauge has been going from 14.0 to around 15.0 while riding on my 15 RGS. I checked the charging system, battery, etc. All checked out. So is it just my gauge that is faulty? It's always stayed put right at 14.2 where it should be while I'm riding. Obviously at idle, it would vary.

Thoughts? Am I missing something?

The voltage gauges aren't known to be very accurate. I would verify that it really isn't charging at 15 volts with a quality meter. If the charging system checks out I wouldn't worry to much about it.

Right on. I checked out the charging system. All checked out okay. Only reason I asked is my gauge has always been pinned at 14.2 while riding. It's just been moving around some now. Quite a bit, actually. All between 14-15.

I dont know how you checked the charging system but Intermittent issues can elude the manuals procedures.
What you describe can be a symptom of a failing voltage regulator.
If it were mine I would run wires directly from the battery to a DVM that I could see while riding. If the dash meter moves and the DVM stays constant then it's the dash meter or its wiring. If the DVM fluctuates with the dash meter id start to seriously consider a new regulator.

Here's something real simple, make sure your cables to the battery are clean and tight. Neg. cable first off and last on.

Thanks guys, I will check a couple more things out. Might just end up having the VR replaced to be on the safe side.

Throwing parts is expensive when a simple test will tell if those parts are needed or not.
Setting up a DVM as I described above takes maybe 15 minutes and will tell you if parts are needed without undo expense.

If his had done it from day one id agree, no problem.
But he says it's always been steady and just started fluctuating upward.
It's the change that's worrisome.
