Gutman is right, The V-rod motor won't work in a bagger it doesn't even get going until you get in the 5K rpm range. Baggers live in the 2500 to 3500 range most of the time. At least I do.

Current baggers cruise at those RPM's because that is where they are geared to cruise.
This of it this way. A bagger lives at 2500 - 3500 rpm which is roughly 50% of it's useable RPM range with a little rounding.
A Revo engine redlines at over 9000 rpm iirc. So gearing would be made to let the bike cruise happily around 5000 rpm (or roughly 50% of it's useable RPM range) and I don't think it would be a problem.
I've never ridden a V-Rod, but everyone I've talked to said they are incredibly smooth riding, vibration free bikes. I think it's a great engine for a touring bike.
It is hard to accept change. I know that we love our harleys the way they are and most of us at our age...50's most likely will not be affected to much by change anytime soon. But if we do and we are forced to ride these new style bikes,I can't believe that it would be that bad...it's a change.I personally love the air cooled engine, but I don't have a problem with water cooled either.
anything would be an improvement over my 96 overheated ,clanging ,chattering,
need to invest big $$$ to get it right, ultra!!
heck ,, I wanna be first in line,,,,, when and where???

I always thought the old Honda Valkyrie, which was basically a stripped 'wing was a nice cruiser platform too that wasn't just a harley rip off. The problem I think was that Honda knew it couldn't compete in the Motor Co market and the component quality outside the engine was always second rate to keep prices below that market.
And if we are comparing water cooled cruisers, I definitely don't think I'd buy a water cooled Harley cruiser over, say, a Boss Hoss, which is also American made and owned.
I think what I'm saying is that if Harley is trying to move its brand to one that wants to compete primarily on technical refinement and technical superiority, I'm going to be comparing them to the competitors' offerings based on those criteria and they aren't necessarily going to be my first choice anymore.
No changes in engine sizes for '08. The MOCO's application to the CEPA Air Resources Board for the 2008 models clearly shows the standard engine size as 1584cc (96ci). Application is dated May 16, 2007 for MY2008. Thereare also FLHTCU and FLHRC Anniversary Models with same 96ci engine. Police models FLP and FLHTP are 103ci and Screaming Eagle engines are 110ci.
