At this point, the only reason to get a WHIM is if you want to Bluetooth your headset to a CB radio. If you're not planning on getting a CB, then your current setup does everything you need.

The only reason to upgrade to a 30K is if other riding buddies will also get them, so you can use the Mesh technology.

On my 18 Glide I use the Free wire...I already had the 20S so this was the best route for me...Bought the adapter wire for the 7 Din hooked it all up and it has worked perfect for 15 K miles so far....Nice separation on all songs and mp3 is as well great....I do ride solo and the wife rides her own ...we both have 20S Senas...

If you have no need to share comms with a passenger, the FreeWire is absolutely the best bang for the buck.

I recently purchased a 2017 FLHTKSE and had the dealer install the WHIM, purchased HD30K headsets. After many problems finally got the radio, WHIM, and headsets updated to latest versions of software. I am used to using corded intercom an Gold Wings so I thought I knew how to set microphone sensativity but can not get the system to work without keeping the mics open any time I exceed 45 MPH. Has anyone been able to get this system to work with open faced helmets?

Update: After trying every bit of advice I got, I ordered a couple of pairs of J&M wired headsets like I used on all of the Goldwings I've had. The advice I got from Harley said I would have to uninstall the WHIM for corded headsets to work. When I ordered from J&M, they told me that their Ultra that they use for demo purposes has the WHIM installed and the corded sets work fine, try them before uninstalling the WHIM. Installed them in my 3/4 helmets, plugged them in, and WOW, what an improvement in the audio quality. It also fixed the problem with not being able to adjust the sensitivity level of the intercom so it does not stay open all the time. After trying to use the bluetooth headsets on one trip I decided that the much improved audio quality and function of the corded sets outweighs the inconvenience of the cords. Especially when you consider having two additional devices to recharge at the end of every day. So I have a set of barely used HD30K headsets that I wont be using and could not get the dealer to return.

WHIM is the only purchasing regret I have for my bike. I never use it, and when paired with my SENA the sound is meh.

i seem to be going through the same thing on my 19 Ultra. Got the 30k and Whim installed last week and have been trying to set it up since. My mic seems to be fine but, my wifes mic pics up wind noise around 50 mph also. It doesn't seem to have any effect to change the vox setting in the wireless configuration. I tried them the same then tried to make hers less sensitive all the way down. With no joy.

You may have better luck / skill than I did. I honestly think I tried every combination of VOX sensitivity on the bike intercom and never got it to work properly. We even tried un-pairing them from the bike, using the Sena to Sena technology and had the same problem. The headsets came paired to each other from the factory because we bought them as a set. We un-paired them from each other, then paired to the bike, tried changing the configuration in the headsets and the Boom system settings, everything anyone could advise us to try. I think the microphone noise cancelling capability is not capable of working properly with 3/4 or open face helmets.
I spent about 2 months trying to get them to work, then, as I said, went back to headsets that I know work.
Realistically, the quality of the sound and the intercom functioning is more important to me than being cordless.
Good luck.
