Default Bike Won't Start.

I have my friends 2008 Road King Classic, Had a big issue with compensater rings came apart and distorted everything inside plus inner cover. Well replaced everything reconnected battery now it wont start. checked for codes, had a couple was able to clear them, ran the security retrieval as per book still nothing. no blinkers no starter click.
put volt meter on battery, 12.5 v turn ing, on drops to 8.2v fuel pump comes on but just wont turn over.
Any thoughts???

From 12.5v down to 8.2v when cranking, you’re losing 1/3rd of the battery’s capacity. Get a new battery.

Had a friend who’s battery had enough legs to run everything normal, including turning the engine over, but it lacked enough juice to fire the cylinders. New battery was all it needed.

This is also assuming that you already checked the basics like making sure the battery post connections are all tight and secure as that makes a big difference

Before you replace the battery, remove it from the bike and charge it using a proper battery charger, not a tender. Get it load tested at a local auto store, which should confirm if it is either good or in need of replacement.

I learned on a Polaris Ranger that you can get enough fire in a crapped-out battery to spin the engine, but no fire to the plugs. I hear all of these stories about batteries lasting a decade, but I have learned that if I absolutely have to depend on a battery, after three years, it goes to recycle. Batteries don't cost that much and I want to be in the Guinness book for something a little more significant.

Sounds to me like the battery is toast

If you are dropping that much voltage simply by turning the ignition on I wouldn't hesitate to replace the battery.

I agree with GR

I got fed up with all the nonsense and got a 2/10/50 amp MANUAL CHARGER and a digital LOAD TESTER.

One of those things you wish you did years ago.Although I inherited them...

Until you do that, you don't really know what you're working with.
