only issue I've had w/ my 08 is finding a seat. Not all 08-13 seats fit an 08, some might say otherwise but I own a 2008 and a 2012 so I know firsthand what will and won't fit as I've tried multiple seats on both bikes.
If finding comfort isn't hard for you, its no issue.
The gearing on the 2008 is taller too....rarely if ever hit or use 6th gear.
08 feels more nimble then the 2012, a touch smaller and more maneuverable. JMO

The also added the IDS (Isolated Drive Sprocket) in 08 I believe, which made for a smoother ride. Little rubber shocks absorbers in the rear sprocket.

The only "one off" thing you really need to watch out for is seat fitment.
You're not wrong, but let's be real.....anyone looking for "state of the art" technology is not even going to consider buying a HD.
