only issue I've had w/ my 08 is finding a seat. Not all 08-13 seats fit an 08, some might say otherwise but I own a 2008 and a 2012 so I know firsthand what will and won't fit as I've tried multiple seats on both bikes.
If finding comfort isn't hard for you, its no issue.
The gearing on the 2008 is taller too....rarely if ever hit or use 6th gear.
08 feels more nimble then the 2012, a touch smaller and more maneuverable. JMO
I felt the same way when I bought my 07. Not as many years or miles but it's been and is a great bike.
07 got the 96, 5 speed and 5 gallon tank, 08 6 gallon tank, tbw, brembo...
