yes ,riding the PA autobon cuts my mileage in half(almost). I just replaced my gearing back up tall ,going to try that for awhile. I was really j/k about the 5-20 blaaaahaaahaaaa
First off, Welcome to the forum. Sorry you had to run into a group of bozos right off, most of the members are very helpful. I would suggest draining and re-filling with the recommended oil weight and ensuring it is at the correct level, then run it for a hundred miles or so and check it again. That will tell you if you have a leak or you just made a mistake. 5-20 would not be a recommended oil weight.
I agree. And yes, welcome to the forum.
5w20 would certainly not be recommended for Arizona riding. However, I can see using 5w20 where you're from, especially riding in winter. Plenty of freezing temps up in WA.
Mustve just forgot to put oil in it. I am sold on synthetic oils now. I think I rode it between 600 and1100 miles without oil and its not smokeing or making weird noises And power seems normal. Hope/think I dodged a bullet here. Good lesson here I never thought I would be so dumb as to forget to put oil in not in 50 years of working on my own stuff. Double check it now always.

Always possible that during an oil change you may have forgot to check after the filter change. That has a tendency to suck up a quite a bit.
I noticed my oil pressure low an fluctuating on my 09 ultra. I checked the oil and it was more than a quart low. No smoke or funny noises and no leaks. Bike seems to run fine. I added 2quarts of synthetic 5w20 which is what I use. Im in Arizona and have put over 500 miles since I got here 2/1. Where did the oil go?
I changed it at home before trailering it here and I cant imagine I forgot to put oil in. Theres about 1100 miles since I changed it. Where did the oil go? Exhaust is clean no oil residue and it dont smoke. Could it have gone into my primary somehow? Bad crank seal? Cold the oil pressure at idle is 32psi once warmed up oil pressure at idle is about 15psi but goes right to 36psi above idle. Any ideas?
Was wrong on the 5w-20 it was HDSynthetic so whatever that is.
So you added 2 quarts but you think you forgot to put oil in? Pretty sure they take more than 2 quarts. Maybe come up with a little pre ride checklist for yourself, you know, gas, air, oil, the basics.

One or two quarts low is not empty. You still had plenty in there to do the job. If it was empty you'd know. It makes a HELL of a racket.
Seems like the Bozo that owns the bike would have been smart enough to check the oil, huh?
There is a 'magical' little item called a "dipstick" that is used to check oil.
YOU need to familiarize yourself with it.
That is the problem with people that want to do maintenance.
They won't or aren't competent...........
