OMG! And in Arizona! Therefore, since he doesnt , Im betting he never filled it all the way when he changed it.
You were right I used 20w50 but only put in 2qrts. Was trying to get ready for 2 months in Arizona and thought I did it right. Didnt notice for a couple of rides.
Its never used a drop of oil ever so I dont always check befor I ride. Think Ill change that though.
Give him time....... he's probably out in the garage reading the label on the bottle of 20W-50 motor Oil thinking, "Damn, I was a little off on that one!"
All's fine if you're absolutely sure you didn't add enough. If not, take a couple minutes and pull the derby cover and check primary fluid. I had the disappearing oil syndrome on my 09 during a trip and dumped about 2.5 quarts out of my primary when I got home. Crank seal.
There is frequently a penalty for over filling (oil coming out the air filter housing and making a mess) just as there is a penalty for under filling (much more expensive). My personal technique is to put in 3 quarts (with a filter change) and run the engine for 3 minutes or so (oil filter now full) and then fill to the half way point between "add one quart" and full. I get to exercise the dip stick several times during that drill and guaranty never calling the job "finished" until the level is VERIFIED being where I want it. If I don't have the time, I don't don't the job. That is from MY 50 years of doing this stuff.

My variation, after 50+ years of doing much the same, is to fill to the lower mark on the dip-stick and take a short ride of 20 miles or so. That is normally after doing other service items, so serves as a shakedown and to check all is well. Then I top off the engine oil.
We all our way of doing things as long as it gets done that's what counts I'm glad you figured it out rather than having a problem with your bike btw I also run mine a 1/2 quart low to keep oil out of my external breather
I am glad nothing was wrong with your motoringcycle. But when you were guess that it might have gone into the Primary that was a possibility It happened to me If the left crank seal goes south the engine oil goes into the primary case.
