Hello. New member here. Also, although my brother has owned Harleys since the 70's and I've been riding bikes that long also, I finally joined the family and now own a 2016 Road Glide.
I'd like opinions on how important people here think a good quality head temperature gauge is?
It’s interesting how every car has a temp gauge but everyone thinks Harley’s are somehow immune to high temps. I agree that a head temp gauge is something that will probably drive you nuts but a oil temp gauge can be valuable. After all, even a Harley can overheat in traffic and oil breaks down under high heat.

Not to me. Harleys have been shown to be extremely durable in high heat conditions. Knowing what the temperature of the engine, whether oil or head temps, doesn't really serve any real world purpose, except for maybe engineers...Just my opinion, have had many Harleys in all temperature conditions, haven't burned one up yet.

What makes you say "everyone thinks Harley's are immune to high temps."? I think most of us Harley owners know in fact that they do run hot. I don't know a single Harley owner that says "Man, I wish my bike ran hotter." Cars have temp gauges because they are water cooled and if the WATER overheats then you have a problem. Since we have air cooled engines there's nothing you can do but pull over and shut 'er down if you can't stand the heat. Other than that, I guess you can run one of those silly parade fans but honestly, I just ride and keep the fluids maintained. It's worked out pretty good for me for many years.
