It has cams and Torrington Inner Bearings already. I didn’t see the tentioners when the primary was open
I would expect to have 130k on this bike in the next 5 years. That’s a lot of miles and a lot of stuff that can fail. My wife had to talk me into purchasing my current ESP and it has paid for itself plus around 2k in only 1 1/2 years. Seems like smart money to me?
As far as paying the difference for the motor upgrade or any upgrade for that matter, I am not aware they will normally do that. That would be bending the rules a bit, but some shops have been known to be creative in filing claims and getting things covered.
If you did anything other than stock, cams, exhaust, ext, ect, I would read the fine print in that new warrentee. There could be a gotcha in there. I wish I had an extended warrentee on mine
My repairs are all out of out of pocket. And the crank let go at 27k.

I’ll make sure there’s no issues with the Cams before purchasing a new ESP.
The dealer allowed me to upgrade to a stainless clutch cable when the stock one broke just paid the difference. Also upgraded lowers when they changed fork seals.
Still curious about the ability to upgrade to a bigger motor if you blow it up? Seems like if you’re willing to pay the difference it would be possible? If I popped my 96 a 103, 107, 110 or even a 120 would be nice.
Talk to the dealer about this and make them put it in writing... This is not how warranties work, as far as I have ever known. I would put $5 Monopoly dollars on a big 'no' from HD or your dealer on this option.
i've seen where it has happened. the owner just paid the difference between the stock parts and the upgraded parts. course, this voided the rest of the warrantee right when it was done.
Bought my 2012 roadglide used. Purchased the ESP not knowing the history of the bike.
I had my drive belt go last year. Limped it into the dealer. Found out that it wasn't a covered item. The ESP didn't pay for gaskets, seals, bearing race or exhaust clamp. It did pay for the rear sprocket, bearing, rubber isolator. Also the compensator and chain tensioner. Called the ESP to find out why the belt wasn't covered if the sprocket went bad. They told me that if a covered item (sprocket) causes a non covered item (belt) to fail, the non covered item remains non covered. $1500 repair cost me $817 out of pocket. $740 for non covered items plus $50 deductable on the warranty items. Far from breaking even, but you never know. Still have 4 years of payments to go.
