It’s amazing how fast these suspension threads go downhill anymore ....

Call Ohlins, ask about their products. You’ll get a straight answer from them without having to drink “the kool aid”.

Or call Legends, or Pro-Action..they all are very knowledgeable and straight forward. The point is this..call the manufacturer and not base all your facts off what you read here. Lots of good information is to be had with just a phone call.

I could not agree with you more, and ultimately, that is/was the point I was trying to make.

Well done!!

I made a comment, from my personal knowledge and understanding, and stated such, and that was blasted to a fiery death with absolutely zero corroborated supporting evidence, beyond “because I said so”.....

Have a great Easter weekend

Yeah, and it seems like it’s always a forum sponsor that drives these threads in that direction too.

It seems reasonable that some sort of continued front forkmaintenance is necessary after upgrading to a cartridge type fork insert. Is it just a matter of draining and replacingthe fork oil every other season or do the forks & inserts have to beremoved to perform the maintenance?

What was pointed out and is continued to be ignored is that irregardless of what is inside the forks, the bushings and seals that separate the fork slider from the fork tube will at some point require maintenance. They’re wear items, no two ways about it. Installing cartridges does not magically make the forks maintenance free which is what is being disputed.

H92064 I don't understand why this is so hard for you to understand. I ran Progressive monotubes on my last bike. Yes they are a sealed cartridge and require no maintenance. They work till they wear out then you replace them. However they are installed inside your fork tube and fork slider. There are bushings and seals inside the tube and slider. That is why Progressive tells you to put oil back into the forks, to lubricate the bushings and seal as the fork tube moves up and down on the slider, the oil isn't for the cartridges as they are sealed. This oil will become contaminated and cause your forks to leak oil if not maintained. Progressive doesn't tell you how often to change the oil and maintain them because they are part of your original Harley parts and would fall under your Harley recommended maintenance schedule. But yes the forks seals, bushings and oil will still require maintenance, no the cartridge will not need maintenance.

Let's look at this topic from a different point of view. Most of our bikes while stock have a damper rod damping system, which of itself has no load bearing or wearing parts. Remove the damper rod, to fit a cartridge damper unit, and we are not actually significantly changing the fork. All the load bearing and rubbing/wearing components carry on doing exactly the same job as before and need to be lubricated. The newly added cartridges, maintenance-free or otherwise, don't change that.

What I’m pointing out is the fact that a forum sponsor comes on here, speaks in an very disparaging way to any and all the he sees fit to. He is not a manufacturer, he is no more than a re-seller of the Ohlins brand. People need to wake up and realize that.

Call Ohlins...you’ll be surprised what they have to say about this person.

I called Ohlins and asked them about him and other forum sponsors that sell Ohlins. I was told the other forum sponsors simply sell their shocks and they drop ship mostly for them. They told me Howard not only sells Ohlins but is an authorized service center and with some of the custom builds he does they are still fully warranted by Ohlins. They said people love or hate Howard but he is very knowledgeable. So I don't know who you talked to but that is what they told me.
