O.K. boys give me some help here please... I am 5'10" and want a good windshield for my SG... who do I buy it from and how tall do I have to go for general touring...Thanx...
The egc windshield also fits the sg comes with I believe a 12",tall friend of mine went with the 15' they also make a 9',there are also a ton of aftermarket windshields in many heights, check out J&P cycles website if you dont want to buy from HD.
I'm 5'9" and I use an 8" smoke. High enough to deflect most of the wind, but low enough for the smoke not to affect visibility. I got it on ebay through seller american-thunder. Same quality as the Fast Aire windshields.
I have a HD 6 1/2" on my EG Classic, and the wife has the same on her SG. They won't stop all the wind, but are a good compromise for looks and function. I am 5'10".

I am 6' 1" and use the 9.5" Clerview shield, smoke color with the recurve lip at the top on my SG. I've had it since Sept and 6,000 miles later I still really like. They also have great customer service. The recurve adds aboutan inch or 2ofwind protection without adding any height. The 8" with the recurve should be perfect for your height. They are very popular so you may have to wait a few weeks to get one. www.clearviewshields.com
This question is all about what you are wanting. If you are looking for real touring protection, Moco built the 12" clear windshield stacked on top of the batwing for a reason; it gives the rider very good protection and helps to signifcantly reduce turbulence etc. Having said that a lot of people, including EG riders are opting for shorter windshields, whether that be for looks or to enjoy a more open riding experience. I typically setttle on a compromise height, and right now that is 7" and works very well except for the windiest of days and retains the low profile look of the SGand I'm 6' tall. When I want more protection, I go with a 9" FastAire, Cee Bailey, or 8" Clearview with recurve. When I want total protection I go with my 13" Cee Bailey SSC.
If I were going to ride with anything over 10"'s on the SG, I'd buy an Ultra. I just don't think SG's look right with realy tall traditonal shaped windshields.
I'm 5'9 and have a Clearview Shields 9" smoked with the recurve. I could have used the 8" recurve as far as the wind is concerned. I might buy one, the quality is very high, better than others I've had. http://www.clearviewshields.com
Check out Cee Baileys .com they will have what you want at a fair price. very E-Z to deal with and fast service . I have the 4 inch on my FLHT for three years. Have no regrets , but have been thinking about buy a 7 or 9 inch so then I will have a 4inch ,12 inch stock and then something in the middle ! Good Luck
