Nice wight up Phil. The Sunpie I bought, also from Amazon came with the head light attached to the mounting plate. I ran into the same issue with the trim ring mounting hole at the bottom as not threaded. When I put my original trim ring over the mounting plate it was too large even when I used a self-taping screw. I ended up using the OEM head light backing mount. I used a hand grinder and cut out some of the backing tin enough so the Sunpie head light would fit. Then reinstalled. It looks just like stock LED's. Mine did not come with instructions per-se. I also discovered that the 4" spots had to be connected just right because the connector can be installed up-side-down. You have to make sure the positive red wire aligns with the grey positive wire. Other than that, it was a fairly easy install.
I had the same problem and used a sheet metal nut which fixed the problem. The rest of the install was simple.
Some interesting comments on these, wish some would have put the years of the bikes and models up. I put mine on, had no issue, all went in smoothly. Now just have to aim them when I get the chance. 2010 Ultra.
I installed the sunpie lights on a 2008 ultra. The only thing I had to do was put a longer screw in the headlight trim. Everything else plugged right in.
Yes that's exactly what happened to me. I finally sent Sunpie a message and this is what I got back.
Hi, our running lights are universal, and they may be thicker than your stock ones, you can cut the back little by little to make them fit, thanks
I finally got them in with the help of my very mechanically inclined girlfriend.
Thanks drib. I sent them an email as well and got basically the same reply as you did. Guess its gonna take some creativity..could you send the girlfriend over?

Thank you for the spot light plug alert...I just installed my sunpies and had one of the spot light connectors reversed and thought i had a bad light until I saw this..Thanks again for heads up
