Default Torque

is this the correct touque spec for the pipe plug on the bottom of the case for the sump ???I’ve heard stories of people cracking the crank case by removing this and reinstalling it. Are there any special instructions on doing this safely

I pulled that plug inadvertently when I first got my bike. Then I got the manual after that. I used Teflon tape and tightened it up but not using an impact (ha!). Tighten it according to that spec. The pipe plug screw is steel but the case is aluminum and that’s why they crack when; 1) overtightened, and 2) then heated up from normal operating temps...cuuuhraack.

That spec is for your bike yes?

Use sealer on it and just snug it. It’s a pipe plug into an aluminum case. If youre going to torque it use the 120 lb/in spec. NOT lb/ft. Dont make that mistake.

Default Manual specs

Thanks and Yes that’s the spec per my manual. I’ve been scared to touch that thing after a mechanic at a local shop told me not to over tighten it I’ll crack my case. I just wanted to make sure that was the correct torque spec for that specific plug. Thanks Ed I would definitely have a problem if I went ft/lbs.I am the guy that thinks thing should be tightened more. So I should probably use that spec...lol

Default Head gasket

I need to clarify head gasket thickness. The James gasket kit that I got from the local dealer has .030 head gaskets there are .046 and There are MLS. Which do you guys recommend in my situation?

You will like get different opinions on this but if the bike is stock, go with the same thickness as stock. (which I suspect is somewhere around 0.050). When doing performance stuff, I set squish to 0.030-0.040 with a bias to the tight side. Reasoning for leaving it close to stock is that you don't need to retune. It may not make any difference tho,

Default Gaskets

Thanks Max. Yeah It’s a .046 is the other option.I’m not sure what the MLS thickness is. That’s just a multi layer correct?I’m just going to buy the .046. I do not want to tune and at this point unfortunately I’m spending my tuner money on rebuilding the top end of the bike over a stupid mistake.I just have to laugh it off
