Default Rust on Brake Rotor

While cleaning and shining up my back wheel on my 2012 FLHTK, I noticed rust starting on the brake rotor. It is in the groves, not on the part of the rotor that is clamped down on by the brake pads. What do you all do to get the rust off them? Steel wool maybe?
Thanks in advance for your ideas!
Phil

You can steel wool it. Don't use any kind of cleaners on the rotor itself. It WILL come back however. I wouldn't sweat it, just ride the thing.

Like 67shuv said, steel wool or maybe Scotchbrite...clearly isn't being ridden enough unless you just washed it or rode it in the rain and let it sit.

With the bags on, how can you even see the back wheel unless you are laying on the ground?

Thanks! I actually just bought it a couple of months ago and it has less than 5500 miles on it for a 2012. Going to be riding it soon since the weather has warmed up. I am guessing it sat quite a bit before I bought it...

When I lay on the ground cleaning it, I notice things like that. I am a bit particular about my Harley. Like to keep everything like new if possible. Thanks!

If you are talking about in the holes or slots drilled in the rotor I use a stainless steel toothbrush (can get them in the gun section of sporting goods stores or Walmart, I believe) with Meguires polish. Cleans them right up and the polish can be washed out of the holes or slots.
