Ive got a 01 police edition Road King. The fuse for the speedo, brake light and turns keeps blowing. The tach and headlight and running light still work. Ive chased all the wiring, there is no bad wiring. You can have the bike sit and idle or have the ignition switch in the run position. Will not blow the fuse. As soon as you stated to move it will blow it. Any idea or a direction to head
So it's not the speedometer. Now, one by one, unplug each connector to everything on that same fuse until you rule each circuit out. Do you have a service manual with a wiring schematic? That diagram will help trace it all back to a common source.
Try removing the bulbs for lights that are affected when fuse blows as there may be a shorted filament to ground and if fuse stays intact when ride, work your way back to offending light
Ok. Ill give it a try. Do you know a good place to get a Service manual
if you go here: https://serviceinfo.harley-davidson....cle/lookupForm you can enter your vin and then pull up some good stuff, like your wiring diagrams, owner's manuals, etc. if you sign up for a free account, you can also access this information for other bikes as well. the account is free. there's a lot more you can get if you have a subscription, only the subscription is available only to those overseas. but still an excellent resource none the less.
Check the wire supplying the front fender light. The wire goes into the fender and can get some slack in it, and the tire wears the insulation off of the wire, causing a short.
