Default Electrical / Battery question

One way to check if a car has a battery issue or an alternator issue is to start the vehicle and disconnect the positive terminal to the battery. If the car stays running, there is a battery problem. If it stalls out, the alternator cannot charge the battery or keep the car running so you most likely have an alternator problem.
My question is...... Does this apply to a 2012 Electra Glide? I had a problem last night and I am on my way to the garage to investigate.
Thank you in advance

That worked for older cars but it's not a good idea to try it on modern cars.
It is also not applicable to HDs.

In the election section of this forum you will find a sticky on troubleshooting the charging system that will help you pinpoint your issue.

Even with old cars it was so-so. I had an old car that I could ride around during the day to charge battery. But not enough to run the lights long. I still charged a bit.

As said that is concereded a bad idea on modern vehicles.

Also as said go to electrical ection of google, how to check AC output of stator. Getting a electrical manual isn't bad either. The make a seperate manual for electric. Though you can read enough to get a pretty good idea on this one. Just need to know how many AC volts per RPM you bike makes.

I like DC clamp ons, now that they have become cheaper.

Thank You both ORradtech and Zerk.
I needed a sanity check. 50 miles tonight and it did not act up. 5 weeks before a long ride to SC and TN. I hate these intermittent electrical problems. there is more to my story that would be more appropriate for "What have you done to your Bagger lately"
I will certainly look into the troubleshooting section you steered me towards.
Have a great night

If you don't have one already, buy a cheap digital multimeter. You can get one for like $10 at any auto parts store. I use mine more than I thought I would and not just on the bike, As mentioned, there is a sticky here that will help troubleshoot but for a quick check, put the meter on it and you should have 12v or more before starting. Start it and it should be 13.5 or more. Anything over original reading it's charging a little.

Good luck finding your problem,

Put a meter on it.
