Default Automotive Shocks

Has anyone ever ventured into checking about a light weight automotive shock for a Harley touring bike before?

Never crossed my mind but interesting question.

But I have never thought about putting a car tire on my bike either just to get more miles out of it, the tire.

I know a few guys that built their own air ride systems using early model Corvette (I think) air shocks. The shock bodies needed to be modified to the correct length and obviously a compressor setup needed to be built so they’re adjustable for ride height and rebound. They seem to like them for half the cost of what a premanufactured air ride kit would cost but it can turn into a headache building your own system sometimes.

Car shocks don't have springs, they won't support the bike.

As mentioned, there are lots of threads about using Corvette air shocks. They aren't a tradional shock, they are a shock with an internal air spring

I know people have used Gabriel Air Shocks, and Monroe air shocks in both active systems (onboard compressor) and passive systems (like OEM, adjust before you ride).

I forget the part numbers, but you have to pay attention to the size of the shock eye, bushing sizes, and make sure the bushings don't bind after mounting.

IMHO... air shocks are good for adjusting ride heights (looks), and handling larger payloads.... I just don't think air is good for high performance and/or comfort.. I've changed out three Harley bikes with air shocks, to a coil over design. Regardless of price point, any of the coil over shocks I've used, have given much better ride than the OEM air shocks...

I could be wrong, but I think Skully air ride uses a Corvette shock.

There have been many threads over the years about the Corvette shocks. But as far as I am concerned there are simply too many excellent choices designed and engineered for motorcycle to try and Frankenstein something that may or may not work, may or may not be safe.

Pro-Action for me!

I would like to know what Corvette air shocks some are talking about.
To the best of my knowledge, air shocks were never any type of Corvette option.

Of course there were lots of aftermarket air shocks back in the day.
