Hey guys, i just bought a 1997 Electra Glide Ultra Classic from a buddy of mine. Recently, I’ve been getting either fuel or oil building up on the bottom of my air filter and dripping down and out of the filter housing. I have a K&N filter and just took it back off to clean for the second time in a matter of three weeks. The oil is a little low so I’m wondering if theyre related. Any advice?
Welcome.
Our motors vent crankcase gases into the intake. Some motors, like mine, have a lot of oil in those gases, which accumulates in the air cleaner and eventually drips. Football style air cleaner covers (i.e., factory covers) slow the drips because the oil is caught inside the AC covers. Open air filters like the Big Sucker do not catch the oil, so it drips and/or is blown all over your saddlebag or passenger's leg.
I have a 2000 Twin Cam with a Big Sucker air filter installed by the previous owner. He placed a ladies' feminine napkin on the bottom-inside of the chrome housing to absorb the blow-by that is apparently no longer being plumbed back into the induction system.
Don't tell anyone though, it's effing embarrassing having a maxi pad on my bike
But it works
And when it's running badly, I can honestly say "it's on the rag"
Since you have an EVO, you also want to make sure your check ball is working properly. After sitting for a period, they’ll puke out the filter as well.
